Various threads here on tyre choice.

Search online tyre traders as well.

Also we have no idea of your tyre needs...

What sort of mileage do you do (distance, motorway or twisty roads)? Is wear rate more important than handling, for example.

Something I have discovered in the last few days is that the wear rating of tyres does not correlate with the make of the tyre, but with whether or not it is considered to be a "sports" tyre. Low profile tyres such as 225/40 appear to be regarded as "sports" tyres and they usually have poor wear ratings no matter what make they are. I wish I had realised this before I bought my current Mercedes which has 225/40 tyres. If I had known, I would have bought something else!

There is a web page which gives these wear ratings:

http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyres-ratings-nhtsa/tyre-wear-ratings.htm

(Click on a manufacturer's name at the bottom of the page)

If anyone know of any other similar page, i would be grateful if its URL could be posted.

I've been using Kumhos for the last 10 years. The first ones weren't fantastic but the latest generation (KU31) are excellent. The only problem is they are not cheap any more. I'm now trying Nexens. I ran the Winguard Sports through the winter (just as good as the Goodyear Ultragrips on the wife's SLK). I'm now trying the N6000 summer tyre. Seems really good so far and comparable with the Kumho but cheaper.

As above ^^ I've been using Khumos for the last few years, they are superb, but the rest of the world has woken up to them and the prices are rising.
I will be trying Nexens as replacements, as several colleagues have been singing their praises.

Tom

we are asking what size of tie you currently have on your car, for example mine are 225/55 R16. without this we can only guess at what might be best for you.

Like many others i'm going for Nexen's this time round and at £65 a corner plus fitting and balancing they should do nicely for another couple of years.

For what it's worth, I got a set of new Hankook S1 Evo 2s on my SLK recently for £320. Big improvement on the cack that was on it before. Quiet too.

personally i'm about to get some Blue HD's due to them being so cheep (rather expensive last couple of months on the house), they have a good ratings and some pretty good reviews.
