If it was front instead of mid-engined then I might consider it e.g. if it was a true updated replacement of the lovely old Spyder.

I'm no where near the price segment for this car, but I applaud them for making it.

Its probably more focused than what Mercedes drivers are used to but the technology used in the construction, the design and the badge are all top drawer IMHO.

It's always good to have something a bit different come to the market.

Though with regards to weight, design engineers don't talk about kg/hp, but the lightweight index. This gives a measure of the torsional stiffness as a function of the vehicle's weight and size.

The looks are a bit Marmite, but credit to Alfa for making it. A carbon-tubbed mini super car under 1,000 kgs.

Volvo XC60 se lux nav geartronic. SLK230K now gone.
Nice looking car, but big drawback for me is that it is not a convertable. Thats the reason I got the SLK - open top motoring.

I think this car is going to be very, very impressive in the flesh. The performance had better be 911-baiting otherwise it won't be a strong enough contender at the price point.

Our other car is an Alfa - a 159 which we use almost all the time. The driving experience, comfort and some of the interior materials like the leather are excellent. The build quality not so much. That said, we'd sooner have it than a more expensive BMW.

If the 4C has the Alfa hallmarks - well weighted steering, characterful engine and smooth, pleasing road dynamics, then it'll be a cracker.

Its a "Mini SLR Mclaren " ;) albeit with a cruder front end which I assume is still mild steel?? The problem with all composite bodied cars is giving them adequate strength in key areas- where you hang the front suspension- where you mount the engine- how you provide adequate front collision protection as opposed to adequate impact absorption which composites are very good at. I guess the price reflects the necessary hand assembly such "mixed construction" implies. All credit to Alfa Romeo/Fiat for making the technology more mainstream. We might all be driving cars made from composites one day--- provided they can get them all made by robots! I hate to think what it will cost to insure them though- looks as if its a back to the factory/ write off job in the event of a substantial collision... Bet its a hoot to drive though. :):):)

They key is the "hoot to drive". Porsche and BMW have dominated the sports car and premium sports car segments for ages, glad something different is coming along. And it looks ace.

The issue is, at the price its going in at, will a 1.75 4pot turbo really appeal.

Of only Alfa didn't have such a poor reputation for reliability - especially their electrics/electronics. As in:

"Daddy, daddy what does ALFA stand for?"

"It means All Lights Failed Again, son!"

That's a bit like all the skoda jokes...based on cars over a decade ago.

I love the Alfa. Have owned two and loved them. Can't compare that to a slk. One is a true sports car for balls out fun, the other is a cruising GT of a car.

Glad you've been happy with your Alfas. But I personally know 3 people for whom it is "never again!"

You can't compare with Skoda. Modern Skodas are pretty much budget VWs.

I imagine that the front end is a mid grade strength steel 300-500MPa as used in conventional cars.

Any attachment points to CF are usually made by adding a machined metal block wrapped within the CF.

CF cars are difficult to design to pass all the various crash safety targets.

The issue is, at the price its going in at, will a 1.75 4pot turbo really appeal.

The Jag C-X75 was going to have a 1.6 4pot.......plus a few batteries.
