Hi all

I am thinking of selling the 210 cdi as it's hard to justify 2 cars. I did initially have it advertised at 1600 for 2 weeks with no bite.

It's a standard avantgard 320 cdi with 160k, grey leather, command, xenons. Well looked after. Egr shunt and decat , engine mounts, subframe bushes etc mechanically all sorted. Amg alloys in mediocre condition. The usual rust, front
wings bad but not really bad, rear arches are ok. Everything works.

Am I asking too much? I paid 2800 just over, 3 years ago at 130k. It's lost a lot if so!

£2,800 wasn't a bad price then. I paid £4,500 in Dec 2009 (although with a p/ex +£3,000).

I reckon mine is worth £1,500 pre-restoration although you never know until you try to sell.

I think the market is well aware of W210 rust and maybe it's putting people off?

I sold my MY2000 E320 CDi Avantgarde in October last year. 120K, rust on wings/furry headlamps/tidy-ish grey leather/ EGR bypass/ all toys working, for £2000
I paid £2000 for it 12 months before but spent around £1500, on getting it reasonably decent, tyres and a big service.

Hi, I would have thought your price is about the right level. I always work on the basis of ~50% depreciation every 3 years as a rule of thumb for an everyday vehicle, so that would make yours worth ~£1400.

I think the only problem with selling any car at this sort of price level is that the average buyer who is only looking to buy a cheap car also wants to run it cheaply, so larger engines and luxury brands are often regarded as being not meeting the cheap to run criteria. Hence the number of potential buyers may be somewhat less than you might think.

The other thing to consider is the cosmetic condition of the car. The issues with W210 rust may be fairly well known by forum members, but probably not by the general public. So if someone comes to view the car and sees the rust they might be rather put off as they can go and get something else for similar money without rust?

May be try and advertise at £1390 and be prepared to take 1200 if you really need to sell, otherwise consider keeping it for longer even if it is only for occasional use?

Good luck.

I think thats what Im going to have to do.

Me and the other half are trying to save money at the moment, and whilst holding on to it would be nice, we are paying 130 pounds a month on insurance, just for her to drive it, which is mental.
