In the kast few days I have noticed that my airconditioning has stopped working - not cooling air as much as it used to. Has anyone used any of the recharging kits from halfords / similar suppliers. if so where is the low point filler?

regards

Looking into the engine from the front, filling point is at the back, towards the right hand side. It has a small black plastic cap which twists off. I used one of the Halfords successfully a couple of weeks ago.

When the gas is low, the air con often works just fine till the outside temp gets to 24c, once over this they will stop working in just low on gas

I've used one a few weeks ago.
I had pressure on both the high and low ports.
Assumed my problem was low on gas so perhaps a slow leak. So I bought the kit for both its leak sealer and its top up properties.
I tried topping the system up when the outside temp was 19deg. I put about 10 grams into the system (into the green area) but still no joy.
Tried again when the temp was 24deg. This time the system took a larger amount of gas.
This time it worked and is now working well.
Even better than when Kwikfit did a re-gas last year.
I wouldn't say it beats a proper air con service but you pay your money and make your choice.

You mention "not cooling air as much as it used to."

Have you checked the pollen filter is not choked up?

Good point
Mine had managed to collect a handful of Birch seeds.
Not my problem but certainly worth checking.

Wish outside temp would get up to 24c a bit more often.

checked gas pressure using a gauge that came from a halfords cylinder. It ws in the red zone. Clutch seems to kick in and out when EC switch is operated. Any suggestions

Do you have the LCD aircon control panel in your car? If so, the panel can be used to show different aircon settings (including the gas pressure) and error codes. if any are present.
Here is a link to how to use the LCD panel for this purpose:
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w21...onditioning-codes-recharge-info-clearing.html

When my aircon was low on refrigerant, I could hear a sound (from the centre vents) like you would hear if you were blowing up a balloon, slightly hissy.

When I was filling up with the Halfords gauge and gas, I just kept filling ( in small time increments) until the sound from the vents disappeared, even though the Halfords gauge was telling me there was sufficient gas present. I had to keep shaking the gas cannister to get more refrigerant into the system. So far so good.

Not sure what else you can do if you don't have the LCD control panel.
