My electric window yesterday started sticking, you press the button and window goes down 2inches stops then press it again goes down an inch and stops press again and same etc etc same goin up. Just happens on the one window and same happens if use the window button on the door or the button in the front. I read on here on other threads needs resetting by pressing and hold the button at the bottom for ten seconds then the top for ten seconds. But this dint work. Any ideas? its a e230 1997 210.

These motors have a 3 second trip, that is if the window is too tight in its tracts the motor trips,, did you have the ignition on when you tried to re set it.

Or a problem with the rear door ECU that controls this motor.

Are you aware of the first and second press for the manual/auto function?

If not, try again, pressing the switch only half way down (manual function).
You should also find that with switch pressed half way the window will travel fully up or down without stopping.

Otherwise give the channels a scrub with an old tooth brush in case they're dirty and causing motor, safety to trip.

yes ignition was on. tried again this morning and window worked fine so thought happy day its fixed over night :) but get to work and started again :-( where is the rear ECU behind the rear door card I take it?

You have to remove the rear door liner,,I have the instruction if you need them

Often its water damage, it might be possible to clean the ECU up, I do not know as I have not done one of these

I would suggest giving the visible door channels a scrub first. These usually attract dirt that over time gets trapped in the material and causes the window to bind and tripping out the motor safety.

Try with some soapy water at first with the window shut - usually loads of crud comes off and will run down your window and door. Then open the window and with less water work at the inside of the channel.

Don't forget the bottom glass seal either.

If you're looking at removing the rear, door card then check out the DIY thread on how to fit a new window regulator. There's instructions and pictures there.

The 202 and 210 are unique in having a combined controller for both doors, all other models have an ECU for each door.

If you can get it apart there may be some green algae on the PCB or connectors,, you could was it off with lighter fuel and try it .

I guess yours is the older W210 with key having flip out key blade.
Cannot remember the exact set up on this, but it is not like later CAN controlled cars that have ECU in every door - will see what I can remember...

Then cancel that, you have ECUs built into the rear door window motors.

From what you say, yes, as long as the mech and runners etc are all OK and free.
