Hello all,

I've just obtained a 1999 E280 V6 Auto saloon which has the odo meter reading the recorded mileage in Km rather than in miles. What i'd like to know if I were to obtain a speedo that reads as miles would this also require the ECU to be changed or would changing the speedo display sort this out. I can get one at the moment that is reading the same milage but in miles for £25 but don't want to bother if it means changing more than this to get the result I'm after.

Any help on this would be most welcomed.:D

OK thanks, it's just that my speedo has Km printed in white below where it says VDO and just want to know if I obtain a speedo that has miles will it convert my jcurrunt mileage from 180,000 Km to 111,000 miles as it should be without having to change the ECU also. If it's just a case of changing the speedo unit then it's worth doing.

There could be problems in changing it, the new one would have to have the mileage set by one of the so called speedometer correction guys

As television says, you can just plug the cluster straight in and it will function correctly, you dont need to swap anything else, but if you want the milage changing to your current milage (or MPH equivalent) it will have to be 'zero'd' with a milage correction tool, then can be set up to whatever you like.

Yes well that's sounds not too much of a problem them. The new unit I,m going to replace it with has a 100k on it so like you say I can just then get them to reset and put in the correct mileage.

Don't know why this car came with a speedo in Km in the first place as it's not an import or anything. At the moment every time it goes for MOT they keep recording the mileage as 180k rather than Km and it's clear on the speedo that it's in Km so it's just a bit of a pain. So rather swap the unit and get everything correct.:p
