Hi some advice would be welcome please. I have a 2002 W220 that runs extremely well but when the ambient temperature rises to around the 30 deg mark as it has in the last week or so it occasionally cuts out whilst accelerating and the warning lights on the dash say "Major Failure-visit workshop". Stopping the car and turning off the ignition resets everything and you can carry on as normal. This happened last summer too and I took it to my local MB dealer who did a Star diagnosis but they said the fault was non specific and suggested replacing components. Anybody got any better ideas?

Take it to someone with STAR who is more helpful.

+1. Take it to someone who can actually be bothered about their customers, and one who has taken the trouble to learn and understand what STAR is trying to tell them.

I dont think I have ever seen "major failure visit workshop" on a dash before!! It cant be that major if it still goes!!

STAR diagnosis test on this one I think before any solid comments can be passed unless someone has seen it before of course!

Thank guy I just never saw that bit

Not CPS or it would not start again, no problems with fuses on this model, the EIS switch is a possible one as they can fail in the heat. It wold be nice to know what STAR said

Hi you are right the dash actually said Major ELP fault visit workshop. Have had a friend plug his Solus Pro into it today and it says "Rail presssure Monitoring pressure exceeded" and he was able to clear the fault. Does this make sense?

Regards
