Hi I would like to change the 14 inch steel wheels on my 1984 w123 230 ce, to 15 inch steel wheels , would there be a problem with this upgrade , the wheels available would be from a w124 or from a C class , with 195 65 15 tyres, if I can get hold of a set . Would there be any fouling with bodywork or brake calipers. Thanks Sennaclass.

123 15" wheels were ET 35, the 124 15 are ET 44 on the 6½j and 35 on the 7J

Thanks for your reply , am I right in thinking that steel wheels with an ET less than 35 will not fit, and I should be looking at , a 15 inch wheel with an ET of 35 or higher than 35.

The higher the number the further in the wheels will sit, you are fairly safe going to a lower number where the wheels will sit a touch further out

.... too many cars!
Go for the C Class wheels as the ET will suit better but go for 195/60/15 or 205/60/15 as the 196/65 size will look daft!

What are you going to do about wheel trims? They are hard to find in 15" and stupid money from MB if sourced new. I have looked at this in the past and MB does the 15" steelies for not the most silly amount from what I remember.

Yes that's right I will be fitting 15 in chrome wheel trims, if I can find suitable steel wheels, they are proving quite hard to find these days . I have sourced a set of steel wheels from a c class , 6.5 J x 15 h2 ET 37 but I am unsure if they will fit , anyone got any advice on these . Thanks again sennaclass.

They should fit ok. 15" hubcaps can be found on German E Bay .... sometimes

Just the information I was looking for , many thanks having just purchased a set of 14" steel wheels from MB for my 350 SL I was looking on ebay for classic wheel trims to fit and noticed discrepancies in sizes . Just out of interest I was quoted £918.00 for a new set from MB.
