I know this has been discussed here, with some negative comments. We are just back from a spell in the Arctic circle, where MB seems a popular choice of car, including many taxis. It would appear that tyres and driver ability are the key issues.

As I've always said, and good tread depth helps a lot. Looking forward to the snow so I can see how my winter tyres perform, first time I've had winter tyres.

Some people seem to think the faster the tyre spins, the more chance there is of moving.

Driver ability will be much better in cold countries because they grew up with it.
We are well known for roads blocked with stuck cars if there's a layer of snow, trains stopped because of frozen points or wrong type of leaves. Schools closed because teachers can't get to school. Health and safety etc.

How did we ever manage in the old days?
We just got on with it and did what we needed to do instead of blaming anything and everything.

Anyone who has tried winter tyres will tell you MB's are OK in snow - as long as you have the correct tyres. On "ordinary" (in my case it was an S203 on virtually new Falken FK452's) tyres they are indeed problematical, but on winter tyres they're fine.

We've had a little snow up here on the west coast of Scotland, enough to trouble the ESP but nothing worse than that.

It's all about forward planning, early braking and easy acceleration :)

Being auto is never good. Winter tyres, weight in the boot and care are your best bets but starting from a stand still could still be a problem.

Yup it's the auto I don like for the snow. The rest is poor compared to fwd but not unworkable. 40k miles per annum here and have both normal and winter wheels

an auto is no problem in the snow with the right tires, here in Sweden that's what I drive to work every day (50,000km per year)

Auto is not good for rocking to get out of a slippy hole or rut.
OK once moving though.

I love the snow but nowt this year. When the snow comes it's play time.

Ride bikes in the snow. Cars, front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, 4 wheel drive, all fun in the snow. Missing the white stuff this year :(

But you never get stuck with decent winter tyres.

I haven't yet, and now I have jinxed it no doubt.

We got on just fine years ago as the tyres were only 5" wide in most cases.

I did weddings when I lived in Sweden with my 1928RR it would go anywhere

Very nice, might not be the right place to ask but any better pics?

Did you buy it new?
Seriously though I'll bet there's a story or two you could tell about the car.

As mentioned, we all forget cars had skinny tyres years ago. They cut through snow much better than today's carlos fandango ones!

I bought it as a unused wreck from a Barn in Ireland and spent 17 years doing a nut and bolt rebuild, did it all my self

Mercedes are German cars. They sell loads of them in Germany and mainland Europe.
Ever spent a winter in Germany? Plenty of snow and very very few stuck cars. They're not all manuals but they are all wearing winter tyres.
