The coolant should be fine with the water top up.

I'd use a 75w-90 GL5 oil in the diff, or a 80w-90 GL5 if you can't get a 75w-90.

Hi Joe

Sorry, but I don't deal with Torco, so can't comment on their products. Yes, you can use 236.14 for both the autobox and transfer box.

Hi Tim , I have just bought a 2006 E280 cdi Sport and as I didn't know when the last time the ATF was changed I got my local German car specialist to change transmission oil and filter . I'm not convinced they have done it right , can you tell me the correct procedure for the re-fill please , Ta .

Hi Graham,

I am afraid I do not know the procedure, just the fluids that go in there :)

thanks, is it necessary to use fully synthetic gl5 or can mineral gl5 be also used without loss in performance?

Hi

Do you know if it has a 722.3xx (4 speed) or 722.6xx (5 speed) gearbox?

Cheers

Hi

You need an oil that meets the Mercedes 229.1, 229.3, 229.31, 229.5 or 229.51 specification.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-716-mercedes-engine-oil.aspx

If it doesn't burn much oil, any of the oils that meet those specs are fine, but if it does burn oil, go for one of the 5w-40s.

Cheers

Only just read the 'Threadstarters' article, what a brilliant and informative article, well laid out and so easy to read. I didn't catch the the article when it was originally posted as it was before my time on this forum. It certainly aids the understanding of lubricants and highlights the naivety of using additives, not that I have ever considered it, even less so know. Excellent. :):):)

metallic looking flecks in fuches titan ATF 4134??

I was changing the fluid in my 722.6 today and whilst re-filling the gearbox, from a freshly opened 20ltr tub, I could see tiny metallic looking flecks in the atf going in. I noticed this right towards the end of filling the transmission.
Alarmed, I thought maybe the funnel had somehow got contamined despite meticulous cleaning.
I then opened the Fuches Titan again and tipped a little into the cap and rolled it back and forth in the light and there were the little flecks again...
Any ideas what this is or have I filled my transmission with a dodgy batch of fuches titan with swarf or sand in it?!

Hi

I've not used it myself, so can't be sure of what it looks like.

I'll need to contact Fuchs about this. Do you have the batch number (should be on the can), when you bought it (order number if possible) and a sample of the oil left over that they can test?

Cheers

Tim
