The MIL light has been coming and going for a while now with some temporary ( about 1-2 secs ) power loss whilst cruising.

A read of the error codes gives P0183 - "Fuel Temperature Sensor A circuit high"

To test this, I cleared the code to clear the MIL light, started the engine and no error codes appeared. I then unplugged the temp sensor, started up and again the P0183 is back.

From looking at the service book the fuel filter hadn't been replaced ever ( no ticks in the boxes). So this was changed.
Cutting open the old one showed a black sludge about 1mm deep on the dirty side of the filter, so obviously bad.

Running the car again and the MIL light still appears, however the power dips don't seem to have come back.

So I'm thinking of replacing the sensor, but where to get one from?
EuroCarParts don't stock it and I don't want the MB premium.

So, does anyone know where to get one?

and

Is this a known / common failure point or indicative of something else?

I would say get it to an Indy who has access to STAR. I dont recognize the fault code and no its not common. I would guess your generic reader has translated a code which wont match the STAR code, could be wrong.

This was been done at the last service with the same error but, I think it was misread as coolant temperature sensor, a more common fault. So I went away and changed the coolant sensor

Update on my fuel temp sensor. It was replaced had no further trouble with it. This was picked up on my hand held diagnostic meter. Not star?

Issue has resolved itself.... filled the tank end of Last week and no eml on at all. Must have been something with the fuel in the tank prior?

I can contact him if you need any further info.

Sad days, the SLK's been off the road for 3 weeks, problem with the DAS. Waiting on Mark @ RMK to work his magic.
