My daily driver is a w210 e320cdi and apart from the usual service items, its has been supremely reliable.
I fitted the excellent egr electronic mod. a long time ago and the car has not put a foot wrong since.
Your biggest problem nowadays will be finding a relatively rust free example.
All in all the w210 is a fine car in my opinion.
If your mate is looking at 2004/5 time frame this will be a w211 which is another story altogether!!

I have a mate whose thinking of a an older 320CDI, low miles, but this thread exposes quite a few weaknesses in the E320CDI!

What are the petrol versions like, anything to look out for, it will be an older car 2004/5, 70K miles.

The OM613 is a good engine, the 2004/5 would be a W211 so a bit different to this blog. You will have SBC costs unless it has been done

I do not know the current mileage but it's recently had a new front brake caliper due to it seizing, front discs and pads, plus a small service at a local garage to my brother.

I am not expecting more details but it still lives.

Still have them Bob, plus a ballast and motor salvaged from another. I'll give them to the buyer

I'm leaning towards the bay of dreams with no reserve. I want it gone but selling cars can be a right PITA. Otherwise you end up with the 'what ya best price bruv, innit?' crowd who quite frankly should not have internet access in the first place.

I am still deciding whether to replace this now or keep for another 12 months. I guess August's MOT will answer that for me :)

Keep it as long as you can if it serves a purpose for you as mine does. They are great cars :D and I'm really pleased I kept mine as bartering to the bottom is not my cup of tea either :(

I don't think I could even give mine away.

It is just so rusty and very few things work on it now. I have an emulator for the passenger seat SRS, an emulator for the steering lock, an emulator for the EGR, no fog lights, no cd player, no rain sensing wipers, the screen wash bottle will not hold water, the spheres need replacing and the front discs...other than that she runs well!

Anyone want the spheres and front discs I bought intending to replace?

I probably will keep it as it is not worth much but it is so comfortable to drive which is a must. I think I will start looking in the summer just incase she dies but it give me time to view and test drive cars without rushing.

I have a new set of rear tyres waiting to go on, new front discs and pads too! One thing I must say, it's popular with our eastern European friends as the number of times I've been parked up and someone comes up to me asking if I want to sell it is unbelievable.

P.S. Sorry toby1 for derailing your thread :)

The estates are great jobbing vehicles and can hold a lot of stuff, when mine is fully loaded doing a tip run the gatekeeper at the recycling centre would love to charge me but can't at the moment as it's a private vehicle, no doubt this appeals to Polish builders et al

Estates as a workhorse theres not much else to touch them not sure if it is but the W211 looks a lot smaller in the Rear area , and has a sloping rear window .What else is there to compete?
Saab 9-5 Volvo V70 both those autoboxes not got the longevity of the merc and as for the Saab Timing Chains etc . However neither rust like the 210's.
Must admit mine is beginning to feel like its falling apart now Current Jobs are
Heater Motor Just Packed Up
Wings Rusting & Paint Cracking
Pixels gone again
Tailgate rusting again
Rear Subframe Bushes need changing
Vibration on Idle so Engine Mounts needed
Front Jacking Point needs welding
My current thoughts are spend 1K and sort it good for another 2 years?
It needs a month inside my garage to sort and I need to find that time
However I polished it the other day and it looked good from about 15 feet away:)

Ye gads, what disparaging nonsense!
Why this must surely.... be an AMG Lounge, C63 led, hack attack?
