Hello, I'm new.

I'm after some advice from people with more MB experience.

I have owned a 2007 c203 for about 15 months, no big issues in that time (new battery, new tyre)

Last service (DIY) was oil change (MB229.51), fit new genuine MB oil, air, fuel and cabin filters, plus inspect underneath & engine compartment. No issues.

Now ASSYST has triggered the service A message because of the 12 months elapsed, but I've only done 2,500 miles in the past year. MOT inspection was 60 days ago and was 'clean' (no advisories).

I'm wondering what I should do for the service? I'm thinking either nothing, or treat the car to a new oil filter (but not change the oil).

I'd value your advice
(PS I've already reset the ASSYST message, thank you MB owners forum, and I have a copy of the MB service checklist from the internet)

I'm a bit obsessive about oil changes, every 5000m or 6 months.

If I'd done your milage I'd deffo change oil and filter after a year, but others may scoff at this. I always keep an eye out for oil offers and get it in in advance.
If you get a pump you can just suck the old oil out and do a quick, ciean change.
If your oil filter is on the top of the engine like mine, you don't even need to lok under the car.

I do a service every 2 years (4,000 miles) and ask my independent to inspect the car and reset the ASSYST in the inter current years.

I know MB changed to fixed interval servicing around that time but surprised they did on W203.

Is that 2500 made up of lots of little journeys? If so I might be minded to change the oil and filter. Mine generally does one long journey per month (almost no other use) and I leave it 2yrs between services.

Personally I would service each year regardless, especially if you do a lot of short distance driving. Just gives piece of mind and may prevent future, more expensive problems!

I would certainly do an oil and filter change. Also don't forget brake fluid as this should be changed based on age more than mileage.
