2003 270 clk cdi elegance
Hi

I recently bought a 2003 270 clk cdi elegance and unfortunately it now seems to need a new gear box. The car presented with a transmission fault that the main dealer diagnosed as a Tcu issue so replaced, with no differencce to the original problem and at great expense. They now say it requires new gearbox.

I love the car and would love to have it back in use. Is it worth repairing or will i be constantly shelling out for huge repair bills? I can have a reconditioned box fitted with the new tcu unit for around 1000 pounds or a reconditioned one from mercedes with a garauntee for aroound 3000 plus labour. The car has only done 90000 miles and seems sad just to scrap it not to mention all the money lost so far.

Any advice very much appretiated

I would pull the car out of there and take it to an Indie who isnt trying to rinse your wallet first off.

I would go down the reconditioned/second hand route, the actual boxes are pretty strong, I have seen very few 7G's actually suffer an internal failure, usually it's the electro plates.

Speak to Prestige All Parts and see what they would want for a second hand unit.

Take it to an independent MB specialist and get it diagnosed there. As Steve says MB are possibly trying to rinse your wallet.
