Hello,

I'm brand new having just joined, I currently have a 2014 C220 SE Executive Benz, which is due a B3 service, from what I can see looking around the price of this service varies from £250-£450 which seems enormous considering, as my understanding is, a "B" service is a minor service compared to an "A" service, if a B3 service costs £250-£450 I dread to think what a tier A service would cost.

I have had a quote from a local Benz dealer who wanted £475.00.

Is there a full list of parts that need to be replaced?

So far I believe it is as follows:

Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Cabin Filter
Oil change
Transmission fluid change?
Standard checks, brake pads/discs, fluid levels etc.

I got the car in September 2016 with about 33,000 miles on the clock, it now has 48,500 miles, I used to do a lot of driving in my last job, in one month alone I drove 1,500 miles.

Is this just a rough guide as to when it should be done, or would it be very detrimental to continue driving without a B3 service for say, perhaps another month or two as I am currently out of work and cannot afford to layout up to £450 unless it is absolutely necessary.

I had a "check brake pads" light come up about 3 months ago, drove it for a week and had a mate (mechanic) check it, who said he reckoned there was easily another 1,000 miles or so left, i'm wondering if this is the Assyst system giving an early "warning" so to speak.

Cabin filter, oil change and air filter I can get my mate to do rather cheaply labour wise, however i'm not experienced with cars, how much effort is required (in terms of time) to change a fuel filter, just so I can get a rough idea on labour cost.

Apologies if this has been posted in the wrong section.

That is a very good price if from an MB dealer. An A service is the smaller and usually coast around 200-250, a B usually costs 300-400 with the air and fuel filter at 48000 being extra. Prices vary from dealer to dealer and area to area.

If you look at the MB website under servicing and you can find service schedules and quotes from dealers in your area.

Hi and welcome , if you go outside of Merc for servicing , you will loose Mobilio breakdown cover . If that doesn't bother you , you can go down the Indy route and save money . The service history in my opinion depends on how long you intend to keep the car .
You said you were not working at the minute , you have the option if service history isn't a worry for you of just getting an oil and filter change done by your friendly mechanic, and getting the other bits done later when you are back working ???

Many thanks for the prompt reply.

So to confirm, the air and fuel filter are optional extras, and do not need to be replaced for a B3 service?

My dad happens to work for a motor vehicle delivery parts company - so can get large discounts on car parts, I may just do the whole lot in one go depending on prices.

Apologies.... what is "Mobilio" breakdown cover?

I have breakdown cover although it is provided through a third party agency, nothing to do with Mercedes Benz.

The car was bought second hand, late last year, I believe it came with a 6 month warranty which would have now expired, that said a warranty wouldn't cover a service anyway, that would be classified as general wear and tear.

Mobilio is MBs own breakdown service BUT to be covered, the car must have a FULL DEALER service history. a service by the selling dealer (if non MB dealer) and book stamped means no mobilio.

There is a sticky in the general section on Mobilo- Mobilo is essence is Mercedes all singing all dancing breakdown, recovery and additions service, provided the car has been serviced by MB dealer network, it will be 'restamped' and be covered

I thought the reinstatement of mobilio was impossible after about 2004 reg cars? if not then its possibly worth having, depending on the cost of your breakdown cover against the price difference of a service

My breakdown cover is very cheap - about £30 a year.

Been looking at the Mercedes service care plan, varying from £30-£70 a month depending on mileage, does that include things such as rental of a car whilst yours is serviced? There doesn't seem to be any option to add it as an extra.

In other words - does anyone here have it, does it literally just include a standard service?

Are you able to add optional extras once taken out, like loan car rental, enhanced services for other parts etc?

It covers all service items such as filters, brake fluid changes and auto fluid changes. Im not sure about the courtesy car.
It wont cover wear and tear such as brake pads and discs.

Since the OPs car was 2014 I was jumping to conclusions it'd had full dealer history and therefore Mobilo Pete....I might have misread it though- cant remember what the reinstatement policy is if not tbh

An update to this...

Dad has got a quote from the company he works for, total cost for all parts £172.00, not incl labour, however both him and myself known someone who would probably charge about £50 in labour for the entire job, I make that £225.00 far cheaper than the £475.00 Mercedes wanted.

Apparently the transmission fluid change is not required yet. Also I was incorrect with the mileage, it's done about 52,000 not 48,000.

Digital service record?!

I take it this is some online servicing record you can access..... where can I see the current services online?

Also - on a separate unrelated note, does anyone here use MercedesMe? I have the app on my iPhone but it says something about getting the car configured by your local dealer, I assume this has to be done either when purchased from a dealer (as if bought new) or taken there for them to program, and there's no way for anyone else to do it?

Does it work with my generation of C220, or is it for the newer 2015 model with the redesign?

Merc dealer or specialist with online star can print off the service record for you

Mercedes me app- i guess yours will be similar to mine...you can do it yourself but a dealer can do it quicker , for a 2014 car there is limited data...dont know if I'd bother again but i have it, cost £30 so no biggy
Fuel level, trip log, battery level is about it

Why not use an independent who can do everything at a much cheaper and competitive cost?

A B Service (which is a major service by the way) would be £270 inc parts, labour and VAT and comes with your DSB service entry. Most independents will be prices in or around the same, possibly with the exception of London.

DSB or Digital Service Book is the service history recording platform, any garage can have access (as long as they are VAT registered) providing they register with MB. Personal service entries are not possible.

Benzworks is an Independent near you, why not give him a call.

London is exactly where I live... to an extent... i'm classified as being in a London borough, but right on the London/Kent border, I don't actually live in Westerham but somewhere nearby, I didn't want to put my exact location in the location field as I live in a small town...

I did google "Benzworks" and the only results that came up were for services in the US, none in the UK.

The quote for parts was £172.00 and someone my dad works with said he'd charge £120 for labour, bringing the total cost to £292.00, a mate of mine might do it for less so i'll see what he'd charge, but in fairness I feel £120 for labour is not a bad price given the work required.
