hi,
on my e350 on the rear window frame bars (don't know what to call them), the black lacquered metal seems to be bubbling on both sides, and it's unsightly and i guess i'm worried about what's next,

is it metal behind or aluminum and has anyone here done a 'fix' for it ? if so what did it involve

cheers
niall

That is rust, you would probably have to replace them or maybe have a good bodyshop rub them down and refinish

ok, so can i fix it myself, i mean if for example i protect the surrounding area with tape and sand down the bubbling, what spray paint can I use to get the same effect as it has now (minus the bubbling....) ? has anyone tried this themselves,

it seems ridiculous that a 2010 model merc has rust issues yet again, but a similar spec 2010 bmw has no problem :(

Can you claim under the rust warranty?

Does that trim piece 'spring' off?
On some Mercs I've had in the past, a similar door trim piece would prise off, and snap back on again.
If so, then repairing is a doddle, without any need for masking.

Can you claim under the rust warranty?

hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! funniest thing ive read al day!!!

as if they will (or have ever) stand by THAT!!! they will say its had stonechip damage or similar. guaranteed. or say the rust warranty only applies to the actual bodywork not the trim, and if the car isnt 100% MB serviced, forget it!

(sorry, i couldnt resist. even Fords dont have THIS issue!!!!)

yeah, I wouldn't bother asking Merc to help out with the fix, so has anyone out there with a W212 fixed this themselves ?

I have exactly the same problem on a 2011 E Class estate. Been looking to get a replacement part.
Dealer wants £48 to supply, just not sure how easy it is to change

Odd, I thought these were an aluminium carrier. Strange place to rust too.

They are replaceable with a small screw at the bottom retaining it.

No spray needed.

It will be a colour match from Vin details,
or
they are all the same black.

those part numbers you posted are w211 from what i can see, and my car is w212... i found this https://workshop-manuals.com/merced...rip/component_information/service_and_repair/ but does anyone have a 'clear' version of this particular guide so that I can attempt it myself, the 'rot' or rust or whatever is way worse now than when i originally posted and i'm considering selling the car now, and want to clean it up
