Hi All,
Been looking around for a week or so but not able to find an answer, so apologies if this has been answered previously. I have a Vito 113CDI (registered)Dec 2011 only had it a couple of weeks, now the colder weather is here it does not get warm in the cabin, if I do not turn the heater on I get luke warm air coming out, if I turn the temperature to warm / hot and turn the fans on I get a short burst of warm air that soon goes cold. The temperature gauge sits around 50 degrees at idle but goes up to around 90 degrees when motoring. The van does not overheat, i.e. no warnings etc. but just not warm / hot air inside the cabin.
No A/C, No other type of heating in the cabin.
I'm starting to think I have purchased the previous owners issues, I purchased it on a warm day with no reason to put the heater on and is going to cost me a sweet fortune to put right..
Any help, guidance or advice?

Checked the dials on the dash yesterday and all seems to be connected and in place, was hoping to find something simple. The only pipe I can find coming through the firewall (passenger footwell) seems to be getting warm. I have read somewhere this could be the heater matrix and is a dash out job and expensive as it's a long job.
Anyone know of anything I should check? I am assuming the water pump and thermostat are ok as engine gets up to temperature.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for your response, I can do 100 miles and still not get any hot air.

hi, is the hot/cold nob definatly working , i presume its a cable then maybe an open close valve on the heater matrix pipe? or maybe some sort of blockage .

Hi Alex,
The hot/cold dial seems to be working, this does not seem to be cable, although I could be wrong, the top end by the dash is on a nylon spigot which the worm drive is turning as it should. If I turn the dial when the engine is hot I get a very short blast of hot/warm air, if I turn the dial to cold there is a slight noticeable difference in the temperature so it looks as though this mechanism is working, also if I turn the dial sharply I can hear some kind of flap working (slamming shut).

The symptoms you describe are very like a blocked heater matrix.
Try removing the pipework and reverse flushing it with a hose (it will likely 'appear' to flow well but a hose is under a lot more pressure than the cooling system).
If no better try running a coolant flush through. I have the exact same issue on my Smart Roadster and that is also a dash out job.

Thank you LostKiwi, I think I have temporarily solved it, sort of got fed up and tapped the pipes coming through the bulkhead firewall in the passenger foot well and I now have heat, so yes definitely a blockage, my concern now is where has the debris gone, what is going to get blocked next? Time for a flush me thinks..
