Hi,
New to the forum and looking for some knowledge. I'll try keep this short
I have a c class with the ILS system that has come up with the message above. I've noticed the drivers side headlight is no longer self levelling on startup and I have no full beam on that side either. Also when indicating right it is twice as fast but only inside the car.

So far I've tried changing the d1s headlight bulb on the drivers side even though it still works on low beam but it made no difference. I've checked every other light and they are all working.
Any ideas as to what may be at fault? I've googled lots of stuff but nothing really sounds the same as this?
All help greatly appreciated.

The ILS relies on a high speed camera located inside the interior mirror trim.

First things first before throwing parts at the problem, pay £60 and get the problem diagnosed on Star at your nearest Indy.

Thanks for the info mate. Would that cause an issue on one side only and would that be causing the fast indicator?

I will be when my guy comes back from holiday but was trying to illiminate the easy bits first.

Cheers

A fast indicator is normally a sign of a blown bulb. Not sure if that's still the case with yours.

Sorry, didn't get a chance to reply yesterday. I didn't spot the line about the fast indicator.

As LK it is usually a sign of differential resistance in the indicator circuit. As you have LED resistors I'd suggest then it's an issue with the lighting ECU.

Personally I'd get it on a STAR diagnostic and go from there.

With the self levelling not working only on one side it might be a problem with that headlight. Wothout both of them working the ILS will not function either.

Hopefully it's not the headlight as I'm guessing that will be rather expensive. Have read some stuff about the SAM unit?
Car will hopefully get looked at, at end of next week.

Well the headlamp unit will be around £1200. The levelling actuator may be somewhat cheaper, if that's what it is.

I've seen plenty of used LED headlamps on ebay for around £200 though.

Neither would I. But one has to remember, these lights are now doing things that were impossible just a few years ago, their functionality is literally brilliant (self guiding, anti dazzle, cornering, bendy beam, fog lamp function, DRL and turn signal all from the same lighting engine). Plus no bulbs to blow and need replacing... Aside from that a new halogen headlamp unit is £7-800 now anyway.

got you, however i old f . and fairly happy with lights i have. and i dont do 90 down back roads at night.so i can see no reason why i would want to be bothering about cornering, bending or most other tech functions that i managed to drive the last 30 without. unless the cost of running this stuff comes into line with my present costs.ie a bulb once every yr or so .

Hah! I feel an old f today too ;)

Lamps are becoming more than just lamps. We’re seeing LIDAR being incorporated now as it’s cheaper, more accurate and less easy to spoof than radar for ranging when using adaptive cruise control and even parking sensors. Li-fi for oncoming cars to communicate with each other to warn of potholes, traffic conditions etc.

But you don't need to change the whole headlampwhen its 'bulb' fails. Technology for technology's sake.

Most of us just want to be able to see the road in front us when it's dark.

But the failure rate is far, far lower than that of bulbs. Like several orders of magnitude lower. And the mean time between failures is several orders of magnitude higher. That unfortunately comes at roughly quadruple the replacement cost for eg. bi-xenon lamps as bought through main dealer.

The cost per driving hour for LED lamps very roughly drops by two-thirds when compared to HiD.
