Hello again, for those of you that do some of the servicing yourself, and this maybe the minor service, which ones do you do?
I used to do oil and filter, and air filter myself. Are the MB engines ok to do at home, or are there any "special things" that a dealer would do as well.
Or am I better off getting a garage stamp on this every time to help with resale values? Not that I am intending to sell my, once I have one.

I have a Clk and E320cdi both 2009 , I do all my own servicing now as I intend to keep them long term . Neither car is worth more than a few thousand each . Because I am doing it all I am changing the filters a lot more often than normal .
If I can't do something I use a good Indy or my local garage

Some engines don't have a drain plug, so you will need a pump to remove the oil.

Pela 6000 on eBay buddy , it will change your life :D
Cheers mate, I did thank you were joking lol. To be honest that is easier than using the plug. Just as long as you can drain properly. Where does it go?

I'm in the process of deciding between the Pela 6000 and a 12v electric, I'm tempted to go for the electric but I don't have any feedback on how good they are or otherwise.

Why would you need to go electric ? For the few times you have to pump the Pela , it's not exactly hard work and at least it makes you feel like you have done something . Pela is a reliable bit of well tested kit . ( other makes are available , and I don't have shares in them ! )

I use a sealey pump. Same idea as a pela and it's brilliant. Don't ever use a sump plug any more even when fitted.

Pump for a couple of seconds, then go make a coffee. When it stops empty it out (two of my cars take 8 litres of oil and the pump is 6 but stops when full). Another couple of pumps on the handle, drink the coffee and it's done.

Sounds like it could be a tidier job as well. 8 ltrs, that sounds like a lot. But I suppose some of these engines are pretty big.

Two of mine are V8s and another is a V6....
Nice cars BTW, I remember those cars from the 90's. How long have you owned the V8's for? Did you look at the 600's as well?

One V8 (r129) has been mine for nearly 3 years, the other V8 since august last year and the V6 for 18 months (it was bought to do a particular job which it has done far better than we expected).
I did look at an SL600 r129 but they were beyond my means.
The r230 has specific sentimental value and will be unlikely to ever be sold - it belonged to member (and dear friend) Television who passed away in August last year.

I'll just set my sights on the V6 for now :)

As LK, one of mine is a V8, one a V6 and the other an I4 soon to be replaced hopefully by another V6.

The V8s are great big lazy engines that make life effortless...

Hi Wighty,

I keep a waste oil container that I decant at the recycling point at the local dump recycling centre.

I thought if I use the electric pump I can decant directly to the waste oil container and save decanting from the Pela, not much effort either way I agree, I suppose I am looking for the quickest and easiest laziest method :p.

Havn't made my mind up yet, less to go wrong with the Pela I guess.

Can you take your car to the dump and decant straight from the car? :D
