it seems like the drivers seat cable has either detached or snapped at handle at top of seat which is now free moving. .How can I access the cable behind the upper handle to check if its detached rather than broken. it is properly attached at the bottom!
The old girl has covered over 274000 miles in the last 18years but is still fabulous to drive but lots of little things going wrong now so any help will be greatly appreciated .I don't want to give her up.

Just pop the back cover off (2 screws at the bottom and it slides down). Should be able to see once off.

274000 in a 215? Jesus.

Ok, the Bowden cable can become detached. This has happened to mine. My plan is to let Welwyn Merx fix it ;) as working with those seats is a right ball ache.

so indeed it was the Bowden cable that had come disconnected and by leavering off the cover on the seat handle at the top I was able to find the disconnected cable....
To reattach it ....It was necessary to release the adjustment screw bracket located at the lower seat release mechanism by sliding it forward a few millimetres ..It was then easy to feed the Bowden cable into its correct position under the release handle. Refitted the adjustment score and adjusted it to take up the excess slack that probably created the issue in. The first place.....the old girl has completed 275000 miles so I guess the cable may have stretched over time.
Thanks all for your input.

My old CL55 was on over 260k when I sold it!

Astonishing mileage’s for both. Really impressive.
