Replaced mine on the R230 with another blue one as it is a blue car. I say another blue one but the original was almost completely chrome as most of the blue had been polished away. I managed to prise it out using my fingernails alone (maybe I should trim them :p). I replaced the two little plastic mounting bushes too.
Thanks

Did it come with the bushes?

Did it just push back in ?

Cheers

The videos do not apply to an R230 ,there is no access from the underside, its a sharpened plastic, fishing line jobbie I think, will come back when I know

Yup, like I said - two (not staggered) self-expanding plastic pins on the back of the badge, and two nylon inserts in the bonnet.

I used this:

Not the most elegant tool, but did the job.

On a side note - I didn't like how there were always water marks* from under the [original] badge after a wash, so added a 3M round tape, when I fitted the replacement black badge. No more marks.

* This is most likely due to Mercedes designers been undecided, which type of badge to go for, when they started the 169, as a result, there's a 40-something mm recess in the bonnet, as if for the bottom lock type of the badge, but then they went with a two-pin version, leaving a nice cavity underneath. I filled that unsurpassed brilliance with Abro Steel, so that the new badge sits on a solid base - I have enough rust on this little car already ;)

Just checked my receipt and the bushes are listed separately (2 x A2019972281)

The new badge just pushed in easily. I didn't have any 3M tape. I did consider using some clear silicon sealant to stick it in place and prevent water getting underneath but it seems secure without it.

I think the [dual personality] problem I described is unique to 169 bonnets - at least I haven't seen this elsewhere - so the badge would be secure by itself on R230, et al.

I did mine on the 209 using a genuine badge from MB Newcastle. Looks awesome on a silver car too, just saying ;)

Looks better now I’ve fitted it properly and lined it up right. Not even joking, the star and the text don’t quite line up right so it looks slightly wonky if you get up close but it’s the actual badge, not my fitting of it. Mercedes quality and all that :p

I think that's the difference between the [perceived] optical and [actual] geometrical centres - there used to be a chapter in graphic design studies, dedicated to that (back when drawings were done by hand, on paper and pencils didn't come with USB or bluetooth). Basically, M and R are wider than E and S hence the top of the star points to ¾ C, rather than bang in the middle of the word.:)

It could be, but this is a C Class badge and in comparison with the original W209 badge the 12 o’clock point on the star is under a different letter. The wreaths are also aligned with the text, not the star. For whatever reason, a detailed examination make it look slightly odd, but you have to be picky about such issues (design degree graduate and self confessed sad act here!) to notice. It still looks the biz though and that, along with the 2017 centre caps are my favourite mods on the car. Add in the facelift grill, makes it look super fresh ;)

My bonnet badge is almost silver on the 215 now. I have black wheels so a black badge might go nicely.......

As long as we're on the subject: anyone looking for a brand new (OE) bottom part of the locking type badge - you're welcome to mine: I've no use for it ;)

Mines going on black and I’ve replaced the wheel centre caps with AMG ones which are black on silver, so the badge will get rid of any other colour

Just fitted mine and ,as you say it’s the badge not us, the point of the top star is not 100% vertical when you look closely...aaargh how annoying!
However it does look awesome otherwise on a black car!
