My 2016 bottomed out the other day with a mulfunction message regarding the airmatic suspension ( rear) . It is located between the rear bumper and the adblue tank. After removal of the plastic protective cover I noticed the two clear plastic air tubes been rubbing against the wires that send power to the unit, hence malfunction message, and both wires were chaffed and perished. After repairing the wires ,which is very tricky, the unit is working again. On putting everything back together, I covered the two pipes with protective insulation to stop any future problems. Hope this post help some body. I can post photos on request.

If the car is a 2016 model is it not still within its warranty?

Yes it is , this post will hopefully help others if the car is 2016 or below. Also there was nothing that I could find posted on any site regarding this problem for any W212 estate.

Just wondering (no criticism btw) why you didn’t take it in for a repair under warranty...

Would you trust what the dealers will tell you? I am sure I would have been told whatever and " warranty won't cover it" and a few hundred pounds lighter. Also I love a challenge when it come to fault finding Thanks for asking Craig.

Thanks for the tip, hopefully I wont find it useful.
I had an issue with the rear air suspension on my 212 dropping a bit overnight, the dealers covered it all under warranty and replaced both airbags. The rear air suspension does seem like a weak point of the cars, although I have work colleagues with 5 series estates and they all seem to had problems with their rear dampers.

By all means enjoy your fault finding activities, but in my experience, on a 2 year old car, you will get absolutely no argument from an MB dealer. They will just replace anything that's faulty / broke and give you a courtesy car for the day, no charges.

Yup. On my 18mth old car, the wheelhouse had broken away. I was expecting an horrendous bill. Fixed FOC underbwarranty with a courtesy car and several very nice coffees thrown in.

Plus the receptionists.
