Hello everyone,

I am starting to get very confused with my dual personality gearbox. Shifts are sometimes consistent with the standard 7G, other times it shifts as you would expect from a 7G+. Service interval on it suggest it is a +, and so do the mpg figures and CO2 emissions.
Having driven a couple of later 7G+ cars recently, the shifts in them feel a lot more seamless than mine. It is going in for a checkup at my local indie in a couple of weeks time anyway.
Could someone give me a definitive as to which box is fitted in the car please? The VIN is WDD2120232A527471.

Many thanks in advance.

Ok, so the car has been mis-sold to me by Mercedes. When I bought it on their website it was listed as a 7G+. And to top it off with the service intervals that are given by Mercedes, it would not have been serviced on time and could potentially have the wrong oil in it. Where do I take it from here?

Double check with the selling dealer.
Confirm numbers on data card and original order
That should clear up any typo issues

Was the selling dealer the original dealer that sold the car from new.

Gearbox number 722903 03 637735 [transmissionType = GA]

7G+ Numbers start 724

So it's a 7G box. Not a 7G+

Delivery date: 26 09 2011.

Data from the VIN Decoder Website.

Just on a side note from this one. 724 seems to bring up the 7 speed DCT box when doing a search online. All this is just confusing me now.

read this.
Have a beer and relax.

Just done a search on this forum
03 could mean it's A7G+

You can find different answers to the same question
Just knowing where to look.

That is the exact thread I was going off originally. That is how I knew, or at least I think I know that I have the 7G+. It ties in with the lower CO2, better MPG etc.
All that said mine is still behaving like a bit of a dog haha.

Totally agree with you that the 7g and + gearboxes aren’t the smoothest at times especially when cold. One thing I would check is that the engine warms up correctly ie the thermostat is doing its job just had mine replaced and it makes a such a difference to the way the car drives and fuel economy. Hopefully when the garage check the gearbox adaptions and adjust if necessary things will improve there may even be a software update for your car

Oh yeah, engine is all good. Only had the stat done about 6 months ago. It was on its last legs before that.
Well I've got suspected engine/gearbox mount as well, which will not help. I have asked for everything to be checked over including the colour of the oil to make sure it is the correct one. This is coming up first working day after easter.

Honestly, I almost always do my research, hence why I knew it had the + box. Lately it has been misbehaving so much that it makes me think it is the non + version. It just does not behave like any other + I have driven recently.

What are the symptoms, hard changes etc?

Harsh changes, inconsistent shift times (by that I mean some shifts are very quick, others are dragged out). Changes can be felt very clearly when cold, almost can't be felt when everything is up to temp. Most notable is 4th to 5th and 5th to 4th. There are certain circumstances under which there is a big thump when upshifting. I know how to avoid that and it is under hard load.
I am at a bit of a loss with this one. Can't see things getting any better. Just hoping nothing gives out in the next 12ish months. I will be changing car and I don't know if I can be bothered with Mercedes autos anymore.

Takes all enjoyment out of the car hope you get some answers when it goes in for inspection, goodness knows what it’s like own a 9 speed with the similar problems. The reason the 5 speed is so good is the fact there are less changes and no early lock-up
