we have a 2008 s 320l and it's now dripping diesel all over our beautiful driveway!

Our neighbour son (an engineer) has identified that the tank has corroded.

We'll be speaking to the bank about a remortgage for the repair!!! (Joke)

Anyone know how much we should expect to pay to replace the tank.

I think I would get a second opinion first, that seems an awfully short life for a fuel tank unless it has been subjected to damage of course. Maybe I'm wrong ?

I'd have thought it was plastic, mine is, as are my 2 Smarts' (and my previous Omega's)

The car has done 220k miles

Could be Possible damage as MOT was only 3 weeks ago and passed with flying colours.

I noticed huge mark on the drive last Saturday but dismissed it as a mess I'd made when I over filled the washer bottle.

The guy who identified the problem is a bog standard engineer who is a neighbour and doesn't deal with cars - he's won't be doing the repair. It'll be going to the dealer.

But I don't want to turn up at Merc thinking its a £500 job and being told it's a £2k job if you know what I mean.

Maybe if you phone MB you can get price of part?

Maybe phone your local independent they may know a local tank repairer, and may know cost of dropping / refitting?

Maybe use google for tank repairs in your area...then phone them.

It’s probably not a part that fails often, so maybe no one knows, let us know how you get on.

I would certainly not take it to MB unless you want to bent over and walking funny for a week!
Find an independent MB specialist (if you said where you are we can suggest one) and have them quote on it.

Unless someone here has had the same issue (and I've not heard anyone with this issue - i thought they were plastic these days) we won't know prices and I doubt an indy on here will blind quote.

It won't have rusted .....

You need the car in the air to properly access the problem ..... anything else us just a guess.

The dealership took the car and it is the tank that needs replacing.

£3,000! Needless to say we are now searching For alternative places.

I get one from the scrappies and get a decent local garage to install it , its rare that fuel tanks fail on any car let alone a Mercedes and its not a specialist job to swap like for like pal
