Hi all
There has been some knocking noises behind the dashboard on wife's CLK, it happens as soon as the ignition is switched on and goes on for a minute or two, it sound as if somebody is trapped in there and tapping to get out (i have looked and cant see anybody in there lol).
reading through this forum it sounds like the heater control motors (plastic gears) may have snapped or stripped.
Now the dealer will not entertain this job and actually neither will either of the local MB specialists, so its down to me to sort.
all i am asking is has anybody got any info on doing this job written or otherwise

vehicle is CLK 270CDI 2003

Same problem here. I got a lot of information from here including 4 PDF files unfortunately too big to upload here. The one in French is particularly useful as it avoids a lot of unnecessary dismantling.

The most likely cause is the broken actuator levers about £15 for the two.
I'll attempt this in a few weeks after I've got the parts and done a little more investigation. Look on YOUTUBE as well.
Good luck.

Just a bit of information. If the problem is the operating levers there is a difference between the left and right and are marked L and R as shown above (actually the L and R are reversed in the photo and the old type cracked one in the middle). The come as a pair under one part number A2038300033 but on ebay some pattern parts are being sold as a pair and are both the same. The difference is in the offset of the hexagonal hole which fits over the drive on the motor. The pattern parts seem to have no offset and therefore no difference upload_2018-4-11_20-40-38.png but this will lead to stress being put on the operating lever and you could end up with the same problem. Anyway the difference in price between them is only a few quid at most.
Oops got the photo in twice!

It’s best to get it read to determine which linkages or motor/s are faulty. The motors can fail too. Some levers can be changed without removing whole dash.

I take it this has to be done on Star?
There are no codes showing when I use my code reader and the noise on the passenger side is consistent with one of the damned levers cracked and the motor continuing to turn inside the rod.

A star will definitely read it, could save you hours in not removing dash.
