if yes ...
How do you do that?
And how do you re-engage them?

All I want to do is rotate the rear wheels, with the car turned off, to clean the rear Reluctor Rings.

So no Parking Brake and No P Pawl engaged. I.e. in Neutral.

If you turn my car off, with her in N, as you open the door it thoughtfully slots it into P, and the brakes are applied.

The MBII has a pre menu, that says
“Brake Reset” ... does that lead to a sub menu?

I didn't want to just “try it” incase te MBII cant do this on my car, or it locks them on or off permenantly.

Note I do not have SBC.

Leave the key on position 2 and it won't do it.

Thanks,
I remember reading somewhere its not good to leave the Ign. Switch On for long.
I assume that doesnt apply to modern cars.

WIS says to turn the ign. Off to remove the Wheel Speed Sensor.
I assume it cant do any harm other than throw a fault code while the ign. Is on.?

Well, I wouldn't leave it on for long, you will flatten in battery 50% In approx 30 minutes

Any takers, from MBII users; as it would be useful to know
And helpful for longer jobs like changing rear discs, etc.?

It also took me about an hour per reluctor ring, as I cleaned the wheel inside and wheel arch etc.

I thought I saw it written somewhere it did this. Guess owners with SBC would need it even for front pads.
But as you know there is no manual.

SBC can be disabled, then star disconnected and it will remain disabled.

EBC cannot be uwound then stay unwound without star active and key on.

Im pretty sure you can put it in neutral, leave the handbrake off and then turn key to off with the door open, it wont automatically engage.

There’s a manual release in the fuel filler flap , you screw a rod into the hole and pull it to release, rod is part of the tool kit! Sure it’s the 221 /216 which has this??

Even if not wind down the window and set it all up through the window.

I don't remember it being an issue when doing rear discs etc.

No problem taking out the rear pads, other than one couldnt rotate the disc to clean it on the reverse side due to the plate shield. I assumed one would have to release the parking brake to remove it and then get the disc off, but not sure.

Worth buying that rod part Cole mentioned.

You are brilliant.
Well hopefully I got the right one. £6.34. :)
The MD parts department say there is a threaded T handle bar, called “Unlocking Parking Brake Handle” .
Parts had never seen one ... but he did say on EPC the EPB Unit has 2 cables, one to each hub, and a 3rd long wire going “nowhere”.
Obviously to the filler cap area.?

Apparrently its part of the original tool kit.
Could be useful :):)
Its ordered.

OK collected my Magic EPB release tool.
86E141B3-3713-417A-8209-1830DF4697D5.jpeg
Seeing there were no instructions, and noticing the big P. I wondered must one have it in P, can you have the ign. Off or must it be in Pos1 or Pos2 etc. And how do you reengage the EPB when you are done?
I asked and they kindly got one of the Master Mercedes Mechanics. He said he was sure this was only for a serious emergency, but would check.
He checked and said it is not really a service tool, but if the dam thing wont come out of Park and release the EPB this releases the Parking brake. But he stressed its not particularly good for the EPB Module ( and Yes he confirmed the EPB was about £650) .

Its a non returnable part but only £7 so not bad to have in an emergency.

He did however show me the undocumented way of releasing the rear wheels.
You have to run the engine, put it in N, and then turn it off with the key. It will not work in P or D or R.
Then you can open and close the doors and it will stay in N permenantly and the wheels can be spun.
So car needs chocks!
Luckily it doesnt need to be in Pos1. Or Pos 2 ... so no battery drain.

Note if you pull the key out, it then automatically reverts to slamming it in P and applying the EPB.
And yes it works

... so I can now clean the rear reluctor wheels. :(

Hope this was useful to those, who automatically put it in P , or leave it in D as they switch off and just open the door when they stop.
