Hi Folk's

I've been searching through some manuals and magazines etc, but I can't seem to find anything with the exact answer I'm looking for, when to change the Timing Chain on my motor

I've got an E280 CDi Sport saloon, and it's only got mid 60,000 on the clock, I've just serviced it with the Garage that's always looked after my Cars, and I asked about the Timing Chain, as and when, but, the Mechanic just said I've got plenty mileage before I even consider even thinking about the Chain, and so.....

I always like to take advice from those with experience, I've only had my Mercedes since last May when I retired, so any help and advice would be appreciated, anyone changed a Chain, changed a Chain Stretcher, or am I right to just go with the Mechanic any enjoy worry free motoring

Just enjoy worry free motoring.

Provided that servicing is carried out when it should be ie oil changed regular, chains will last a very long time. Different car/manufacturer, the simplex cam chain on my last 3 Vauxhalls were all around 180000 miles old when I sold the cars.

Yep , I had the same questions when I bourght my E320cdi , there is no schedule as these cars were/are German taxis , so as Emily's Dad says , regular oil changes and don't worry (at least about the chain :D)

I remember having a 2001 Skoda Octavia 1.9 Diesel when I ran my own Taxi, it was a great car, with a great engine, I serviced it regular, oil brakes etc, and when I suffered my serious health problem, I sold the Skoda to the garage that looked after it, I didn't want to, as I believe you never sell to friends or Family, but, he insisted he wanted to buy it, and he wouldn't blame me if anything went wrong, and so I sold it, with 255,000 miles on it, and I know I took a chance, but, I never had the timing belt changed, and when he told me that the car got wrote off, when a truck crushed it, there was another 9,000 miles on it, not bad for an old Skoda on one timing belt
