Not sure Alex to be honest. MSL though remapped mine from stock (should have been 557 but was 582) to 684 with 835 lb/ft torque. Lot cheaper (and more reliable goes without saying) than CKS!
Does the performance pack though not start at 585 bhp, whereas the standard is 557 bhp? Not sure what’s in there to make 28 hp difference to begin

Because the company you link to are not particularly well respected in the world of tuning high end Mercedes.

The figures they quote are a perfect example of why...

So what are the real numbers for the M157 5.5 w downpipes and a map?

OK so Eurocharged:

Stage 1 - 643HP and 705LB-FT
Stage 2 (Downpipes) - 800hp and 1000 lb-ft...... that ridiculous.

With just a map you should be around the 650 - 700bhp mark, various figures are quoted as none of these engines are exactly the same in reality.

Downpipes are opening up to a whole new world of figures. The power will have a small increase though the torque will increase dramatically, up to 850 - 900ft/lbs with no additional work. :)

I started that way with downpipes and a map (Weistec). Then decided that the air intake wasn't up to supplying enough air so changed that for one with wider pipes and performance filters (Alpha Performance). Then realised that the turbos weren't big enough to cope with my newly found air, so upgraded them (Weistec again). Then decided that the transmission wasn't tough enough to cope with the new power so had that rebuilt. (Yes, Weistec)

I ended up with 860bhp & c950ft/lbs. The new owner has gone even higher since, whilst maintaining the car's driveability.

All the work was done by MSL and, as a guinea pig for the systems, I got an excellent deal. :)

Just be aware that the company you've linked to are not very well thought of. Read their reviews and go to someone who knows and understands these cars and can do your mapping to suit the individual mods using a rolling road.

As above, I don't like to bad mouth a company, but I'd make an exception for CKS. Their customer aftercare is badly lacking and they have a huge mark up on parts etc they import in from the USA for far less even taking import tax into account.

Dave (Now Alps) E63 was the guinea pig and MSL are the leaders by a long way in tuning this engine. The RR onsite is a bonus too so you can get the before and after figures to see exactly what the increases are.

Are down-pipes a replacement for the parts that come off the manifold? This was something that MSL mentioned but didn't quote for, are they expensive? Does this do much for the exhaust sound on a diesel?

Incredible figures, was this on a previous C63? What are you running on your current car?

think this was an E63 pal , the parts aren't cheap . . . . .
Just looking at the power gaines, and you know it would be in the 1000's. I remember years ago, I had an Mk2 Atra GTE16v, and on the forums others were adding Turbo's, lightened flywheels, throttle bodies, brakes, struts, and were spending between 5-10k then! This was in the late 90's.

Cheers I'll have a look. I agree, mine was the "red top" really nice car to drive, but handling was a laugh. It was the front wheel drive car that could over steer without effort. some of the cars ran SBD throttle bodies, and would be around the 205-210bhp mark, not much today but they would spin up through the gears.

Thanks John, I bet that was fun to drive.
I attempted to keep up with it last year on an early morning run - no chance and even with my remap now it wouldn’t happen ( although be a bit closer)- boy you could hear it too!

I was running round in a Renault 21 turbo while the other lads were running these and nova's with 16v dropped into em , looking back on how shockingly built cars of that era were , its amazing more people wernt killed in them

Are down-pipes a replacement for the parts that come off the manifold?

Yes, the downpipes replace the squishy things which Mercedes fitted as what seems to be a compromise of fit over function. My personal opinion is the Weistec make the best ones. As we're talking a Bi-Turbo engine in this thread it's from the turbos back and not directly from the head.

This was something that MSL mentioned but didn't quote for, are they expensive? Does this do much for the exhaust sound on a diesel?

Personally I wouldn't bother as the cost will far outweigh the gains, if there are any.

As stated by John above, it was an M157 engined W212 E63. My current car is still having little niggles so is in and out of my local dealer. Hopefully when it gets sorted I'll put a light map on it though it's currently running 610bhp and the 4 wheel drive system helps to put it down so not a lot needed really. :)

My Google skills have left me today so I can't find the thread but will agree it wasn't cheap. I've also lost the link I had to a video showing it at it's last (by me) dyno where we had to have two people sat in the back seat and two in the boot to stop the thing from trying to escape from the rollers. :D

Thanks John, I bet that was fun to drive.

Oh, it was. :D
