Excuse my ignorance if this is discussed elsewhere but I've an issue with the fuse located in the ECU compartment of my 2005 Ml270 I believe it is F24/8, 7.5A although there was a 10A fuse in this location
It keeps blowing and wondered if there's any further information regarding its purpose? I did read somewhere it powers ignition current to the crankcase vent line heating element? Please advise if anyone's got experience or reference.

Thanks for the response. The fuse is standalone separate from the main engine compartment fuse box . It's located in the ECU compartment.

Regards

Tom

Taken from fixya.com

It's to do with your fuse blowing

REMOVE SNORKEL AIR TUBES BETWEEN GRILL AND AIR CLEANER. REMOVE ENTIRE AIR CLEANER--(PULL UP FROM BOTTOM OF UNIT, IT IS JUST HELD ON WITH FOUR CLIPS) AT REAR OF ENGINE YOU WILL SEE A ROUND AIR INTAKE THE SENSOR IS IN THE TOP TUBE. USE FLAT BLADE SCREW DRIVER TO PUSH IN THE CLIP AT THE REAR AND REMOVE THE TUBE UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. THE SENSOR IS SCREWED IN WITH 2 TAMPER PROOF SCREWS REQUIRING A SPECIAL BIT (5 STAR WITH A HOLE IN THE CENTER) I GOT ONE FROM A TOOL TRUCK (SNAP ON ETC)

Hi Trond, I have looked at the schematic for the ML and I see F 24/8 in the diagram but no location. Those F 24 fuse boxes are single remote mounted fuse boxes often located on the cowl or in the electronics boxes. It looks like that fuse is powered from the F1/k11 circuit 15 delayed relay. If fuse 14 in the main fuse box has power then F 24/8 should have power. If you have no power to the CDI control unit on terminal 1 pin 1 it would indicate a blown fuse. If you do have power then the fuse should be good. I show the circuit going to the Z57/11 connector. I've attached a connector location document below. Perhaps if you can locate the connector you can trace it back to the fuse holder. It looks like you are looking for a green wire.

You're very welcome. It's nice to help people.

Did you see the file I sent you too? Its a pdf of the connections.

Have you managed to scan the car? Is the engine light on?

I did see the .pdf . Priceless thankyou. There aren't any lights on the dash and have only used a handheld scanner which couldn't find any Dtcs. If I can't sort it from the information given I shall invest in getting it star scanned .

I would unplug the sensor and see if the fuse pops then. You could try driving the car with it uplugged. To see any changes.

It's either a faulty sensor or your wiring has chaffed somewhere causing a short circuit. Hence the blown fuses.

You should be able to find the fault with a multi meter.

It's saying that the sensor is behind the air filter box.

Remove the air intake for the box, then lift it up from the four rubber stops. You should find it in the top of the pipe that goes from the back of the air box.

I've never done one. But looks fairly straight forward.

Here's a link to a video to remove the air box

to get the sensor out, you might need BOSCH torx bits. They've only got 5 points instead of six. They have a hole in the middle also.[/MEDIA]

Thanks for that unfortunately that's a different engine maybe a Ml320? . I'm familiar with the guts of my engine and I've already removed all associated intake parts as I was checking the oil breather hose leading to the turbo as I originally thought that was the issue. I shall give an update when I've had a look ..

Hi again. Here's a couple of photos of the fuse layout in my vehicle I noticed a small sticker today giving away the location of the fuse.. And it's purpose. I disconnected the oil separator heater and ran the car until up to temp and the fuse didn't blow.. The heater terminals are cleaned and reseated and wiring soldered and the cars now running without blowing the fuse.. Its still running in limp mode but I think when the ecu fuse blows it throws up a few Dtcs which will need clearing before normal service is resumed. My reader is crap so I'm just waiting on a pals one to hopefully reset the ecu. Can I also add that when this fuse initially blew it was characteristic with the battery terminal cube fuse blowing as the radiator warning light came on and also the heated seats were blinking when depressed. Cheers for your help
