Ok

What colour should the oil be in a 722.6 transmission , even when dirty

And how should it smell ?

Also should the oil be very thin or quite thick

Clean oil should be cherry red in colour becoming brown to black as it gets old.
It should smell slightly sweet but when old smells burnt. It should be thin, watery almost when hot. If in doubt change it.

A STAR session will soon show if that's the case. I may be over your way in the next few days and could bring STAR with me if it helps?

Hi,

It is a red colour in the can. That will change over time to become darker but should still have a red tint.

It shouldn't have a burnt smell.

It is quite thin.

(apologies -- I delayed typing and saving the response and LostKiwi beat me to it)

They used to say a slight ‘Cherry’ smell but certainly shouldn’t smell badly or be thick and burnt!

Somebody might have added a load of "stop slip" to it in attempt to fix something.

its similar to cooking oil in consistency pal but echoing what the others have said , if your gut tells you its wrong , change it , cheaper in the long run
