Still no Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 3’s in 275/40 ZR 19 101 Y or XL. :(

Goodyear EU told me in Oct 2016 they should be out in 3 to 6 months.

Just rang again and they will check with Marketing and get back to me.

Considering the marketing BS
Steering precision and durability
New Reinforced Construction Technology delivers a stronger lightweight contruction improving handling, cornering performance, tread wear and fuel efficiency.

Grip for braking and handling
The New Grip Booster compound used for the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, is made with adhesive resin to increase stickiness with the surface. This delivers better grip for braking and handling on wet and dry roads.

It would Be nice to have the same type on the back. ;)

So is 275/40/19 that unusual a size?

All my SLs had 285s on the back

275 x .4 = 110 mm sidewall ht.
285 x .4 = 114 too big
285 x .35 = 99.75 way too small

275X35X19 is the more common profile but your's must be 40 for more comfort.
Strange to see 40 profile both front and rear on staggered rims, which is the recommended size.

Re F1 Asymmetic 3's, OK not available in the size you want, but 2's are still available. I'd put them on if I needed rears in that size. They are still a good tyre.

They have probably not run out of Assy 2 yet so no point in making the 3

Having had 4 SL500 where the backs were all 285 on the staggerred combo.
I was surprised too, but I always stick to the manual.

Re my recent wheel sensor issues where 3 went bad at once, (issue now totally resolved); when I was informed the sensor values are checked against a std. and also compared to the other side of the same axle, I would be reluctant to mess with moving outside designed rolling radius parameters.
Just in case a true, but unexpected reading started causing dash messages etc.

At the moment they too advised on the Assy 2.
I just thought I would check if there was about to be an imminent release of the Assy3’s .
I would be miffed if I soent my money on Assy2’s only to find next week Assy3’s became available.

ATM my back tyres are 3-4-4 mm and 4-4-4 mm so being a nasty budget Accellera (OKish in the dry .... well easy to make squeal unintentionally, but scary in the wet ergo turn a corner and push it, and you can induce the rear to glide out frightfully easily.)

So if the Assy3 are not coming out in the next month, Assy2 will be the ine I go for.

What’s the difference between 2 & 3’s ?
Anybody know.
I’m quite happy with my 2’s.

Apparently an improved compound claimed to improve braking and road holding especially in the wet.
A few German tyre appraisal sites claimed its a big difference ...
Is it really ? Who knows?
But they did get better scoring on 3 sites.

Personally I just like having the same tread pattern and compound all round.
More out reassurance, as I am not qualified to appraise any differences.
I just assume all wheels will react the same way to a given road surface/condition.

Goodyear got back to me.
None in this size until 2020!

Guess its either :-

1. No new cars have this size tyres, so not worth making them.
2. Little demand for this size, and they have loads on Assy 2 compound, so its not retooling for a tyre in little demand.
3. They have massive stocks of Assy 2 in this size unsold. But are they really planning on selling 2 year old tyres?

Anyway not brilliant news.
So Assy 2 it has to be. :(
I guess they will be as good as anything else available in the £160 price bracket ?

Plenty of online discount retailers will sell 2 year old tyres , Tyreleader being one. Most people wont notice the age of the tyre they bought.

Thanks Craig
Seem to be a good price. I need 19”.
Will see whats available from my fitter. I.e. does he sell them.
Those are the 19”.

Buy from Camskill and get your fitter to fit them. That’s what I’ve done, @ £15 per corner.
