Hi Guys,

Just had my radiator replaced, the fan is now not turning on, does it only turn on at certain temperatures? When does it kick in? If it is faulty what’s a common fix for this?

Thanks very much in advance, all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Note: CL500 nothing but issue after issues, but being a Mercedes head, would much rather resolve these issues, as as I’m sure anyone who has owned a w215 has fallen in love/very attached!

I have NO idea what that last sentiment means.

Hello and welcome... fan should kick in when coolant reaches >85 C. If not then the thermostat may have carked it.

As you have had your radiator replaced, I would check that they have plugged the fan back in!

It should run at slow speed with the AC on after 5 minutes too.

Thanks for the reply,

So the fan is plugged back and is still not working, I have driven down the road for about 2-3 mins and got it to 85 and not coming on.

Is there a way of me testing the actual fan itself for a fault? Or see if it runs independently without being plugged in?

I’m also thinking if I’d hear the fan or not when running?

Thanks in advance for any comments/guidance.

If you unplug the engine ecu then turn the key to ignition 2 the fan will run at 100%.

Or you can plug the computer into diagnostics and actuate the fan that way.

As suggested, the air-conditioning will trigger the fan sooner, assuming that you're somewhere warm. Set it to its lowest temperature or leave the windows open.

With the windows down or standing by the car you'll certainly hear the fan when it kicks in.

The thermostat isn't too difficult to replace, but I seem to remember that there's difficult to see bolt that you may miss when trying to remove the cover.
