Hi all,

W212, 2013, 7G+, E250, petrol, 38k mileage....

Sometimes (say 3 out of 10 times) there's a slight jerk when shifting from 1>2 and 2>3, the rest of the upshifts are very smooth. Also, sometimes (say 1 out of 10 times) there's also a slight jerk when downshifting and coming to a stop.

I see lots of posts about this being 'normal' and maybe a software upgrade may help.... I find it hard to believe that this would be normal for a luxury car like this.... I recently upgraded from a W204 (M271 engine 7G+ gearbox) which was smooth as silk.... I do miss it now :'(

Any words of advice ?! I feel it's far too early for a ATF change......Any idea how I can check whether a software upgrade is available? I have an icarsoft 980

VIN WDD2120362A888976

Thanks :)

38000 miles.... I'll check the service book again but I thought ATF was changed at 70k like you mentioned...

I think 2012 is a transition year when it changed

If it did change on your model to 70k miles it is also due at 5 years (unlike the old 37500k which was not time dependent )

Ahhh I see. I wonder if a ATF change would remedy this issue or whether what I described above is the norm for this car

I'm going to book her in for a ATF change. I've been quoted £300 parts and labour from an indie and £450 from Merc.

Interestingly there's no mention of the M274 in the maintenance book from Merc...

For those that are interested.....A 5L ATF bottle costs £45 direct from Merc which is enough for the gearbox only. If torque converter was to be drained I'd need another bottle (gearbox holds 5L and torque converter holds 3L).

I'm going to get my local (non-mercedes specialist) to do the ATF change of the gearbox only. I've known them for over 10 years and they've always been honest about what they can and can't do.

The only issue is that the service won't appear on the car's digital history which I don't care too much about as I'm very good at keeping my paperwork in order.

Remember to get a filter, sump gasket and bolts also.
MB Grangemouth do a kit, it's on eBay also.
Also videos of the process on YouTube so you can see what's involved.

Thanks for the reminder GlosRichCLK.

My local garage changed the ATF today and so far there’s a noticeable improvement :)

Believe it or not the sump gasket I bought from Merc didn’t fit the sump as well as the original gasket which was in excellent condition so we re-used.

£100 labour for the ATF change :)
