Hi i have a 2014 E350 coupe with a 9g semi automatic transmission.
I was under the impression that the fluid had to be changed every 40k but when i went to Mercedes at Skipton i was informed that they do not need doing as it is a sealed unit? Reading articles and the handbook i am pretty certain he has misinformed me.

Anybody know for 100% for sure?

Thanks

The dealer is misinformed, especially on a 2014 car. You are correct in thinking that it needs to be changed at around 40k, I do mine a bit more often but it takes me a long time to get there nowadays.

I'd suggest looking for an independent Mercedes specialist. I don't know any up that way unfortunately but someone on here will hopefully.

To an extent it depends on the chassis and thus the exact gbox number.

I questioned this with my w220 years ago and was told it’s a sealed for life unit. Well nothings sealed for life and they are serviceable - that’s just what they are told by MB at the time of manufacture.

Concensus is every 35k mileage get it changed.

Watch the Mercedes source vids on YouTube. I love this guy.

Pretty much right and what my 212 just had (except the AdBlue of course!)
If you’re prepared to travel an hour (at a guess) to York you could try

I think you are confusing bare min essential work to maintain a warranty
vs work to maintain a car well

so long as the warranty has ended before the gearbox self distructs Mercedes has done everything they want to achieve

in retrospect I should have noted this info, my W212 when i bought it had 110,000km on the clock, I sold it at approx 276,000km on the clock due to worsening transmission issues, i never changed transmission fluid in the 4 years i owned it, i'll not make that mistake again with my W213

Not myself no, but I’ve met Richard at a couple of meetings and found him to be extremely knowledgeable plus some others I know have used him for servicing and speak highly

ok so it's soon time for my service on the W213, it's current mileage (kilometers) is 65347 and it's due a service @ 68000k. I've already been sent a quote from MB which does NOT include changing the autobox fluid, and the price tag is ridiculous in my opinion, for example they want to charge me 629.67 SEK for filling my adblue which i'm perfectly capable of doing myself for approx 250SEK. (25 euros approx)

So I'll ask for a quote elsewhere, that said, should i be getting the autobox fluid changed now ? and roughly how much does it cost

cheers

I think auto box on your newer car is now 75k miles and or 5 years ? I think ATF and filter changes here would be between £200-350 depending on who does it .

i just want to know when i should get the gearbox fluid changed, is it published anywhere ? this is a 2016 W213

my previous car (w212) had gearbox issues shortly before i got rid of it and was more than likely due to not having the fluid changed ever.

There is like the link for the UK Niall, presumably something similar in Sweden?
Anyway I started it, fill in your details and it should pop out the service schedule

I have the same car and year as you:

Service 20 - Every 77,500 miles/5 years
Automatic transmission: Carry out oil and filter change (with transmission 722.9 - NAG2-FE+)

That is what I did as soon as I bought mine this year.

If car is has engine cutout feature (stop/start) it's every five years for auto box. A Mercedes service plan for this saves hundreds
