Looking to do this myself, with little prior knowledge of this car...a 2012 C220.

Can anyone please point me to any online written instructions/threads?

Was thinking of an eBay kit with discs and pads, but contains little else for the DIYer.

So, can anyone confirm any extra parts or special tools/grease/spares that would be required?

Or is there a kit somewhere has the lot?

Hi,

To change the pads you will need male torx sockets to undo the bolts holding the calliper onto the bracket.

The change the discs, you will need a breaker bar or similar as the bolts on the mounting bracket are very tight. On my W204 C220 they are 18mm size bolts.

On the rear you will need to slacken off the parking brakes to get the disc off. Plenty of youtube videos to show how that is done.

You will need an allen/hex key to undo the screw holding the discs in place.

You will need a wire brush to thoroughly clean any rust off the hub where the disc sits. Any slight imperfection there will cause a vibration/wobble similar to warped discs.
You will also need to apply some copper/ceramic grease where the disc sits on the hub.

You will also need a decent jack and axle stands.

If you can't remove the retaining screw holding the disc on you might need to drill it out too.

This should have said that it is a torx screw.
You may need to put some easing oil onto it t get it undone.

My new front discs came yesterday so this afternoon I decided they were going on.

The calipers came off easily as I'd put new pads in last week, the carriers were a bit more of a challenge but eventually they did yield.

However, that bastard little torx screw (lhs) would not budge no matter what I tried - so eventually with a collection of drill bits I was able to get shot of the little 'b'. The rhs side one was attacked with vigour and eventually gave in, making it much easier.

Now got shiny new Brembos on the front and will soon do the rears. You should have seen the state of the ones I took off - APPALLING !!!!

I like Brembo as they are good quality and come with replacement screws/bolts etc.

Have you got brake pad wear sensors?

I'm doing my front discs and pads this weekend (if the rain lets up). Do the caliper pistons just push back or do they have to be screwed in?

Just push back. Those twist and push are a royal pain.
