Picked up the ML yesterday and the side light blew

For the life of me I can't get to it to change it

All my hands are cut up

Anyone know a easy fix to change it or is it a trip to dealers or indi?

An absolute PITA. Long nose pliers worked for me.

Think I'll take it to garage as no long nose pliers

Also do I need to twist it clockwise if I am able to borrow pliers

Halfords will change any bulb for you for £5. They changes an indicator bulb for me just yesterday. No cut hands, no PITA, easy.

What type of bulb is used for sidelights on W164?
Is it W5W or P21W?

I made this little contraption to make it easy to remove sidelight bulbs on my car - this is for W5W:

Position Light Holder Removal Tool

W5w bulb

Stealers want £33 to change a 10p bulb

Going to one indi now before having to fork out £33

Ordered long nose pliers still unable to get it out

That's beyond insane!

Have a look at the thread I linked above - it's very easy to make this little tool - check the pics, especially the last two: self-explanatory.

PS Mercedes Northampton used to do it for free for me, when I went for their [also free] quarterly checkup, or a service, when I was on the Service Care Plan ...

GLK that tool won't work it's a different fitment

Apparently speaking to master technician at Merc he said worst design ever and to get to bulb bumper needs to be taken off and then headlight removed

Said to him £151 labour for a 99p bulb is a joke

He was nice enough to discount the price in the end to £75

Still not got it changed I'm planning on making a tool to do it myself just trying to locate the connector clip from a breakers hard I will then plastic weld a long piece and make it like a ratchet

Does anyone know the price and part number for the connector plug that fits into the assembly of the bulb holder?

It is a faff, but you can do them with really long nose pliers. I have done 2 on mine and 1 on the wife’s W164 this way.

I did try taking the wheel arch liner out as I had read that this helped with access but no luck.

Spent hours when I changed mine on my last ML. Lots of cursing, the holder was scratched a fair bit also after using long nose pliers. I only changed them as I was hoping they would be a brighter white. Still looked yellow afterwards...what a waste of time that was.
