Hello guys,

Hope you are all ok?

I have 53 plate cl55, which are common for couple issues which I would like to sort out anything serious happens.

1)kompressor pulley
2)abc pump
3)kompressor cooling unit
4)radiator may leak coolant into transmission? New radiator?

Do you know any more related issues which I can get rid of as precaution? I will be glad for every suggestion.

Don't get me wrong, everything works fine, I just would like to maintain car to high standard. Mileage is 96000 mls

Can you suggest where to buy those parts for reasonable price? I would like to change transmission fluid plus supercharger oil as well. Can you please advise where to buy those bits?

Thank you and have a great weekend everyone!

Martin

ABC leaks (not just pump - struts, hoses, lines, pump, valve blocks and dampers).
Rust on rear arches, sills and subframe mounts.
Door wiring harness
Crank position sensor
Crank pulley.

Hi buddy , welcome . Transmission fluid try Fuchs Titan Atf4134 from eBay (MB spec 236.14) , you can get 8L for £52 ish .
You can get a genuine filter and gasket for the gearbox from MB dealers on eBay . Try MB Grangemouth , they give a good discount to forum members and deliver for a few quid .
Supercharger oil , there is plenty on eBay for £20 ish with a syringe included .
You could change the rear diff oil as well , I use Fuchs oil in mine , but you have a super duper rear diff on yours (LSD ?) so will need a different spec than mine ? I use Fuchs syntopoid 75/85 FE from memory , I think the quantity is about 1.3 L so you need to buy 2x1L

The area around the subframe mounts can rust. So can the jacking points. Rusty subframe mounts require the subframe to be removed to fix them.
Crank pulley rubber delaminated causing the pulley to fly apart. Check for wobble on the pulley when the engines running and replace if there is any.

Martin

1) No need to change the supercharger pulley unless its noisy or running out of true.
2) ABC pump................I know nothing about them other than regular fluid changes are a must.
3) Kompressor cooling unit I assume you mean either the heat exchanger or the intercooler pump?
The OEM heat exchanger gives no problems but if you find the power is reduced after a couple of hard accelerations, the IC pump may be weak and need replacing. Not expensive and can be bought for around £100

There are UK suppliers too.

4) The Valeeo radiator issue should have reared its head by now, but if you want to be sure, get a Nissens replacement. Excellent quality and cheaper than a an OEM Behr.

You mentioned changing the supercharger oil. Worth doing. Get Mobil Jet oil if possible. Be careful not to lose the drain screw. eBay sell kits which include the oil, syringe, and refill tube for around £25

ABC. Change fluid every 2 years or 20k miles. Only use Pentosin CHF.11S, Opie Oils often runs discount on it.

ABC pump, £500 rebuilt from MB with 2 year warranty.

Keep your eye on the AC condenser, the bottom had corroded out of mine. New ones are £400 from MB or £90 off eBay.

Finally, hello and welcome to a fellow 215 owner!

Evening Craig,

Thank you...Hello to you too....

Thank you, this is very helpful..What year is yours? What's the mileage? I used to have naturally aspirated one as well, nothing to compare to this beast...

I heard people had them resprayed by merc due corrosion issue? I have just few bubbles around arches...

About supercharger, are they reliable or is there any part which needs changing? I just heard about cooling unit, probably it's what you've mention earlier...

Mine is a 2000 model year, now on 153k. COMAND 2.5 with the small screen. I've a few small bubbles, nothing scary, I had all the undertrays and subframes removed and the only bit of corrosion was one brake line bracket which I had replaced. Had stoneguard painted on under all the sills, nice and thick; I'll be having the rear arches done at some point (inside not outside) with stoneguard too.

In terms of the Kompressor, speak to Alex Foti, member on here. He used to have a beautiful CL55K until its engine self-immolated one day. I think that was a cylinder liner failure. I've not heard of any supercharger failures specifically. Point to note is that the C215 CL does have a weakness in its cooling system; the slats in the rad grille are big enough to allow stones through that can impact the radiator. Now, that rad comprises the engine, transmission and power steering/ ABC all in one, with the AC rad just in front of one corner (and for yours, presumably the supercharger rad too).

What failed on mine was the A/C condenser. They are £300+ from MB but I found an OEM non-MB branded unit- they're either Bosch or Valeo- on eBay for £90. They can rust out at the bottom without any other issue apparent and are a pig to change, the front subframe needs dropping out IIRC.

Mine failed from cracked ring lands, however, it must have been previous owner driving it non sympathetically with a broken ic pump, as the damage had been done before I bought the car.

They are solid though, all other points are accurate, suspension hoses, corrosion and make sure the water drains are clear as this will cause issues going forward!

MB will only repair under mobilo anti corrosion warranty, if it has full MB service history.

Supercharger bearings can go, they rattle about and sound horrible. Lots about second hand, or a rebuild kit is now available. Quite expensive though.
