Good find Steve
To be fair you could write several books on the subject there are some stunning roads still available and unspoiled. I have several personal favourites in Scotland from over the years but Bealach na ba takes the crown for me really

I resonate with the author in the A9, just dreadful nowadays- I have fond memories of doing Linlithgow - Aviemore in an hour in the 840...yikes

Some of the roads from Penrith up into the wilds are truly stunning, winding around the lakes.

Clearly NOT the A14.

The Hardknott pass is amusing ...and lol the A14 close to being the worst driving road I’d say...
The A149 is difficult too it appears :D

It is if you get people who are too old to drive on public roads pull out of a side turn without looking

Penrith to Alston is pretty awesome.
Also the Snake pass A57 Ladybower to Glossop if you find it with no traffic (had an epic drive across that many years ago at 1am in an S3 with an average speed higher than it should have been).
Tarbet to Crianlarich is awesome if you can find a day with no traffic - plenty of traps for the unwary. Last time over that road was the r230 with the top down...it loved it!
B4520 in Wales (Brecon to Builth Wells)
Once you get past Upper Chapel the road comes alive. Sweeping bends mixed with eau Rouge style dips and rises and the odd sharp bend to keep you awake.

That used to be a regular run for me on my motorbike :)
I’ve a few roads I like but it’s challenging these days to find them.

From last year, the car and the road aren’t bad either!

I'd fogottefo about the Stokesley Helmsley road.... That's a belter.
The Cat and Fiddle is ok but ruined by heavy policing due to all the bikers.
I might have been into 3 figures on that in the 911 coming back from a trip to the coast. Just seen off a TT when I spotted a camera van in the distance. I think he was just packing up for the day because if he wasn’t I’d probably still be walking now...

Unless of course I dreamt all that

Do you know the one they call the midlands tick? Might be achievable for a number of folks on here

Carlisle to Maryport is also another really pretty drive, but utterly treacherous in winter.

Will be trying that on the next sunny / not freezing day. I live near York & it is a short run for me.

But why would anyone chose to go to Maryport is a mystery... I thought all roads lead out of West Cumbria for a reason... it’s bandit country out there. Cockermouth was the only island in a sea of desolation.
