Hello all,

My w211 has the dreaded black death i noticed a smell of diesel coming into the cabin took off the engine covers and found cylinder 1 clogged up, ive left pictures at the bottom so you can see what happend, my question is im aware this can be a straight forward DIY job, but has this gone too far for me to do myself??

Any help would be great!

I wouldn't think that's too much for you but always it depends on your mechanical skills and knowledge.
Read up about it and follow instructions to the letter and you should be fine.

Loos like you have caught it quite early, which helps.

Just make sure engine is nice and warm before trying to pull the injector And don’t forget to cleaning out the bolt hole before trying to screw a new bolt in.

I've seen much worse than that. If you want my advice, stop using it and get it done quickly by an experienced professional who has done it before, if you have a go yourself and it goes wrong you could easily end up in a world of pain. Also worth saying that it if it goes well it may not cost much at all.
good luck ;)

The injector has lifted due to the bl::dy useless bolt failing.
Compare the injector rail connecting pipes number 1 is bent up
and the injector is sitting high out of the cylinder head.
So that is more than a straight forward seal replacement.

If the injector is part way out, that has made the rest of the job a bit easier - as long as the bolt hole is not stripped.
But clean away all the gunge before any dismantling.
You may just have got away very lightly.

Can recommend Danny at RSD in Daventry. He's an Audi specialist but he does any work on my cars I don't want to or can't.

Threads will be damaged/stripped that's the failure part.

It will become more expensive as they investigate further unless they have quoted for repairing the bolt hole.

You had been loosing compression and fuel from a leaking cylinder.

If those pictures you posted in this thread are from your engine,
as already mentioned,
cylinder 1 has popped the injector due to bolt failure,
unless someones attempted to remove the injector already.

:)
