W164 Road Noise

My 2005 320CDI has developed what sounds like road noise at straight ahead or left bends but goes away on right curves/corners.
I've rotated tyres and had wheel alignment but no change.
What should I check next?

Jack up front right, and give it a good push & pull - if there's any play, maybe a bearing on the way out.

Thanks...have checked the wheel bearings and no play or noise from them. Still looking

I had a rumble when going straight ahead. You could not hear anything when trying to spin it jacked up and no play at all. It was NSF wheel bearing

Indeed. Any play means it's good & proper knackered.

Good test is full lock in a carpark at walking pace, if you hear & feel a rumble, defo the bearing... but as you can hear it out on pen road anyway, sounds like a good time to get it checked out and replaced.

How worn are the tyres, I found in the 211 certain tyres would rumble once down below 5mm

As above , what about worn tyres and or tyre pressures (try 32 all round see if that helps )

Another vote for the Right front wheel bearing.

In right turns, you're giving it an easier life so the noise will reduce.

Wheel bearing wear is notoriously difficult to identify with the wheels off the ground. you could always ignore it till it gets so loud that you can't miss it!

Thanks guys, tyres are at about 30% so will replace anyway.

So you've got your way forward.

As you intend to replace the tyres, do that first.
If the noise goes, you've got your solution.
If it remains, swap out the front wheel bearings (both - no point messing about with just one).
