Hi Guys,

A quick question here. I am putting together a list of items I need to research for upcoming repairs.

One of the line items from a local indy is "CAP" and there is a quantity of 2. Next line item is "Engine oil cap" quantity 1, so it's not that and a typo of "2".

What else would it be? Magnets?

The context is I have an M272 engine with an oil leak. It needs a breather box + these caps and I don't know what they are. The indy mentions these and MB dealer said it needs 4 "magnets" - could the be the same thing?

Thanks
Conor

Cap could be “Capacity”

Oh sorry I forgot to add the price.

There was a quantity of two mentioned, brand was MER (MB) and unit price of £3.60 each (ex. VAT). :/

Oh well according to the labour descriptor this means the "Rocker cap". The labour line says "Renew breather box and both rocker caps and oil cap". I googled this, are theses rocker caps basically the head gasket? Eeek, I always heard that was a heavy job, did I buy a car that needs a (2) new head gaskets?

LMAO.

For this work, does it require the engine to come out? Because the mounts need replacing too.

Rocker caps probably means rocker covers (aka cam covers). It'll refer to gaskets. Top of the engine so no need to pull engine. Mounts can be done in situ from below.

Smart + others :)
It could be the cam end caps to the rear of cam cover/cyl head. You could ask your indie, or are you taking his estimate and doing the work yourself?

Yeap, after reading the labour descriptor there is a mention of "both rocker caps", so I guess that answers that.

Well, I am just taking the estimate and trying to figure out a reasonable quote to challenge the guy who sold me the car and seek a few quid towards repairs (Which may be futile).

I am not planning on doing myself and will get him or somebody else to do. I don't plan on doing any work on the car myself. My life just isn't set up for that in various ways.
