My E320 W210 Estate has had a leak in odd place namely the central courtesy lamps cluster just above rear view mirror.

It only occurs when stationary and parked on slope with back higher than front, then when driving off it drips all over auto gear lever area.

Won't leak on the move even in windy heavy rain conditions!

Any ideas please?

Do you have a sunroof?

If so open it clean the drains and clean all the metal work that leads to the drains and polish it so the water doesn’t hang around.

From the aerial shark fin at the back of the roof , if you have one ? Or top of the windscreen ?

I know , but the water must get in somewhere , even if the appearance of it is slightly delayed as the water travel before it drips out . Just suggesting things to check

Thanks for quick answers everyone.

No sun roof or shark fin at rear, putting it down to maybe leading edge of rubber strip that holds windscreen maybe.

Or thanks Wighty for suggestion that rear w / washer tube could be the problem.

Has it ever had a new windscreen? Thinking the bonding hour might not be 100%

Alternatively I remember when Mercedes did some rust repairs on mine they glued the rubbers to the doors to stop water getting behind them and rusting the metal out. Just wondering if water has got behind the windscreen rubber and done it’s worst...

If you can peel it back at all and take a look, also if you can get a rag or something behind the seal you can tell if it’s wet or comes out reddish...

Great suggestions Blobcat, had car since 2015, and know previous owner had said he'd had a stone chip repaired on wndscreen, plus towing his caravan to south of france every year for the 10 years he had it.

The leak 1st appeared 2 years ago starting teaspoonful & now more like a tablespoonful that takes around 5 miles to drain out when going round bends.

If it's an estate , any roof rails/strips that hide issues below them

Only black side roof bars lower than central roof height, so will try some tape across top windscreen rubber & 6" down sides as suggested - thanks.

If that fails then closer look at roof bars is next.

Comma used to make a fluid called ‘Seek n seal’ great for windscreen seals, it worked by capillary action, was in a tin a bit like the old 3in1 oil tins. - worked a treat on my Scimitar.
