I'm away at the moment so can't RTFM :)

It's come on before but assumed that some how I'd caught the button ....

When I select reverse gear, the light for the adjusting driver's side door mirror lights up .....

Confused ..... ;)

Your online manual is here:
https://moba.i.daimler.com/baix/cars/w166/en_GB/index.html#emotions/Startseite.html

The light means you have set the dip function on the door mirror when you select reverse. You can set either or both door mirrors to dip on engaging reverse. You turn the ignition on, not start. Push button for which mirror, select reverse, then adjust dip position, release button and put out of gear, turn off, its set

Ah! Thanks for that ..... I'd a feeling that my car should do that as it has memory seat/column. I'll have a play tomorrow :)

Not that clever - they only include the function if you have memory seats, which seems a tad mean.

Does this feature only work with memory seats?

The inserted screenshots came from my W166 manual. The first doesn't specifically say memory seats, why not give it a go? See what happens.

I did see a video on a non memory seat where the guy said it works on other models:

Made it back :). It looks like this feature is only available with memory seats, did some Googling, and that appears to be the general consensus.
Exactly what I found with the W212...

Yes, definitely only with memory seats. I presume this is because the system doesn’t know where to revert back to after dipping if it does not have a memory for the normal setting.

Makes sense when you think about it.

It still puzzles me as to why the interior mirror isn't included with the seat & door mirrors ..... my 1999 Omega's interior mirror was.

My W213 would dip the passenger mirror (if I left the selector on pax side) and I didn’t have memory seats.
