So being single and a fair weather motorcyclist I amuse myself by trawling through ebay and Pistonheads and spotted this. Low mileage, decentish MOT history and apparently recent ABC pump fitted. No panoramic roof and may be low spec but seems like a very good price for what it is? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes...211465?hash=item4b602e9009:g:hToAAOSw6y5ciiyx

In fact there appear to be several cheap (read potential money pit) 500's for sale, this one has apparently had a new ABC & PSE pump although concerns re the advisory for a weeping shock absorber - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes...m=233167964240&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

They look about right. The 230 still hasn't bottomed out yet and both those two are very early versions.

The designo car has an AMG bodykit, was this standard or an option on the designo?

Nice

Have SLs finally dropped below the 6K mark lol
They were in the 6-8 bracket (along with the BMW 6er / M3 e46) for a LONG time

The maroon one has AMG kit - which makes a BIG difference.

Looks like a superb price to me - black interior too

EDIT
Just seen the 2nd one £4650 What the heck is going on here. Whats with the sudden plummet!? HAve people finally stopped buying potential headache cars? I know its an old car but its still GOLD to me

lets be fair, if the body is good, one can buy a fair amount of ABC,SBC,SAM,S with the change if only spending 5k on the car, question is would you ever see most of it back ? if you like the car and there is no body rot, water damage, large scale eng/trans issues it could be a god deal, but do have a look at 8/10k cars as well co,s if you have to pay someone this car CAN soon scoff 3/4 k in repairs

Amazing to see these fabulous cars at such a low, low price. It seems blindingly obvious that they will appreciate in value.

They are still dropping.

At 5k, they easily have the possibility of costing you another 5k without much sweat. There seem to be a lot of them about as well. I struggled to sell my SL500 about 4 years ago, it was on the market for 7 months.

Always surprised how sellers often don't go to much trouble with photos. Sometimes blurred and often not many. The designo without pics. of seats etc.

It pains me to see the prices drop especially as I paid £10k for mine 2.5 years ago! :(

My R129 SL320 managed to do that, £5500 for the car 18 months later I'd put £7500 into it.
Ok so some of it was my OCD wanting everything to be right whereas for the most part I could have just driven it.
Perhaps rather foolishly I then sold it and lost every penny I'd spent on it.

I have done that far too many times as well. Sometimes you have to draw the line somwhere.

I agree, if you will keep for 6+ years, then why not bring it up to great spec. At 5K or even 10K they are a lot of value for money.

I would like a nice SL600 but people are asking stupid money at the mo, 18k+ which is silly.

I've been lucky .I paid £4k for my 129 and see prices on the rise. I'd easily get back more than I paid and quite probably more than it's it's cost me. Not planning on selling though - love it too much!

cars and much else, basically worth what someone will pay for it. and thats always less if yr over motivated to sell it as with anything else clean ,well looked after, well spec,d , original versions will always come good and at a premium. its a matter of timing when i come to sell mine i wont be worrying if it does not sell. its costing me very little and i have the space to keep it clean and dry.
in reply to Alexander, mine wont be going anywhere except my garage for less than 18.5k !
