R230 SL500 - oh yeah!
Bit of Gliptone on the seats and steering wheel and a quick vacuum following some success with the ashtray cover.

Washed the car today after taking Swmbo to our local Curry's Electrical and buying a new washing machine.

The main drum bearing has gone in the old one, it's only two years old too! :( and it was going to cost more than a new machine for the bearing and drum assembly, which comes as a complete unit.

I was going to swop them myself, until I found out the price for the parts, (this was before even considering the cost of the labour for getting a repair shop to fit the damned thing). I just flipped  and thought nope, not happening.

Swmbo was like, "but it's just a wee bit noisey".

Wouldn't have been that if it had gone on fire or the drum ate it's way out of the housing on full spin eh?

Sometimes I wonder what goes on in her head, as she has been quite happy to continue to use it. I hadn't heard it going on full spin since it first got noisey a couple of weeks ago, I just thought she'd overfilled it or perhaps had a lopsided load in the drum and now, I've heard noiser combat jets taking off! You couldn't have a conversation without shouting over it, it's got so bad.

Oh well, never have another Hotpoint washing machine now. We bought it on the strength of having purchased a Hotpoint fridge/freezer which has lasted for donkeys years and given excellent service, times have changed it seems.

Having been burnt financially on expensive machines I buy Candy or Beko. The Candy washing I have is about 17 years old, new bearings cost me £8. Pita to fit but saved the machine.

We’ve had a couple of Beko machines over the years, cheap reliable and generally get around five years out of one. Not bad for something that’s used almost every day.

Ours used to get a really hard time with 5 kids... so 17 years from the Candy and still going strong, I've repaired it and removed more hair-clips and elastics from the pump than I care to think about. I've fitted new brushes to the motor and drum bearings but nothing else.

Well we have had Neff white goods for many years now and they have never faltered. Our Washer Drier for instance is in 15 years old and hasn't even hiccupped, and it is on pretty much every day !!. :D

That 55 is getting better with age Peter , looks , sounds and drives great!

Thanks John, really do like that car more and more everyday.......When it is going 100% :D
Would loved to have been able to put my foot down further, but the handbrake kept engaging

Very impressed with your I8 too, a little too much, as the Misses and I talked about it on the the journey home.
We did seriously consider an Electric Smart when they were on show, Brooklands MB decided we asked too many questions and thought us bad for their con!! Can't con a con man

Been on a test drive this morning in my 190.

Guy came a fair distance to see it, liked what he saw but didn't make an offer as he "has to check with the wife first". I must admit that this puzzled me a bit as he's doing a 220+ mile round trip to get to me. I think I'd have checked with her before setting off.

Oh the joys of selling a car Dave. Sounds like that was the only excuse he could think of for not wanting to buy, but you never know- "the wife" might say yes. If there's any justice that car should sell easily, but the market is weird.

I'm in no rush to sell Peter and, as the weather's getting better now, I may just continue to enjoy it for a couple of months longer.

I keep forgetting how nice it is to drive now it's all sorted. :)

I suppose at least he showed up, so many of them don't. It's so annoying when you have modified your day for them and all you get is a no show ! :(

TLDR: Sunday I went in for a single tyre repair, and came out with 4 new tyres on my w203 C270 :/ On the plus side, now safer and road holding and feel has been drastically improved.

So, Sunday morning I pop into STS TyrePros to get rear driver’s-side tyre repaired. It has had a problem retaining pressure recently and I thought it may be a faulty valve or rim sealing problems like two of the others I had had serviced but in Saturday I noticed what looked like a stone in the tread, on closer inspection it was the head of a silver coloured wood screw. Given the location in the middle of the thread I thought it was prime for a repair.

In Nov 2016 I put 4 new Michelin CrossClimate 205/55 R16 91V on the car, done maybe 17k Miles on them, still plenty of tread (or so I thought).

I hadn’t got 20mins walk from the garage before they chap called me and said they could not repair the tyre as there was a nail through the inside edge as well, too close to the edge to repair and within a 90deg quadrant of the screw so they wouldn’t repair it. The news didn’t stop there; the passenger front tyre had a slash through the tread all the way to the belting (most likely caused by driving over a piece of glass or metal), it was also almost completely worn to the bars on the outside tyre edge (roundabouts) and the rear passenger tyre was worn almost to the bars on the inside edge (most likely caused by the bad busing on the left of the rear seat bar I had done in Jan, although not mentioned by the mechanic :/ )

To top it off, both front wheels were out of alignment (both toe in) which set me back £50 on top of the tyre cost (is this really the going rate for alignment nowadays?)

£425 later and I come out with 4 replacement CrossClimate tyres, having gone in for a £25 repair. Not happy about the unexpected spend but happy that the diligent staff spotted the safety issues and saved me potential license points had some of the tyres worn any further.

Was planning on ordering some aftermarket roof bars for bike carriers to fit my W203 saloon.

Being the non-estate model I don’t have roof rails. These would clamp into the top of the door frame below the roof but would obviously interrupt the door seal a little bit, I am just concerned that, as the stock Mercedes seals are quite flush to the body that this method may cause damage or splits in the seals.

As they would be only temporary installation for weekends and holidays I don’t foresee them causing an issue however it would be good to get your views on this method guys and gals. I got similar bars for my old 90s Ford Escort many years ago and they did the job with ease. I am not such a fan of the rear cycle carriers and I have had issues with them in the past and I quite like the top-mounted cycle carriers. I had been weary of them until I tried them out and found them amazingly stable, nowhere near as noisy as I imagined.
