Lasted all of 3 days Andy when the gearstick literally came out in my hand!
Replaced by a rather ‘lovely’ Ford Cortina 1600 in disgusting yellow with black velour seats...

I had a MK4 Cortina in Daytona Yellow and black velour seats R reg with horrible alloy wheels

Leyland P76 conversion was the done thing in NZ. The P76 was an Aussie derived family car powered by a long stroke 3.5 Rover V8 to give 4.4 litres. More power and torque with none of the slipped liner shenanigans of the Rover 3.9, 4.2 and 4.6 variants. Made the Stag into a serious road rocket.

I remember going to Pukekoe and watching David Oxton racing a P76......GTX Series?? 1974.....Hmmm, I think I remember too that it broke the exhaust off at the manifolds and made more power??
'74, must have been 10 years ago now!!

My first car was a 1961 Triumph Herald 1200, it was free as I stole it from my Dad, I guess he was quite pleased I did this, as he then had the excuse to buy a Triumph 2000 :D

My first one with an engine was an Austin 1300,complete with dodgy rear subframe but years before that I had this little beauty.
You just reminded me of the kart my dad built me when I was 7. It was made from old desk frames cut up and welded into a lattice chassis with an old Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine in the back and lawn mower wheels . It was brilliant and in regular use until I was about 10 when it was given to my cousins to use. Dad also built a trailer to tow behind it and the local neighbourhood kids used to come over for tides round the garden.

This is similar to what it was based on:

Once you remove the blades and roller it had two solid rubber tyred wheels driven by a chain from the centrifugal clutch via a chain.

First car was a 1955 MG TF1500 that I bought for 400 quid (before dollars) in 1964. Traded for 450 on a 1965 Hillman Imp, which in turn was traded for a new 1967 Renault 8 Gordini 1300.

I had a 1984 micra from new. Did 125000 miles in it mostly driven hard as I was always late for work and it was faultless the whole time I had it.(Though the gearbox was making some absolutely dreadful sounds when I traded it in)

You did even better than I did! Mine had 108000 on it when I got rid to a mate. He was still running about in it 3 or 4 years later.

So did I.

New in 1985...scrapped due to rust in 1992. An Alfa 33 Green Clover Leaf.

Alfasud just over two years old, the scuttle had rotted through and the wiper arms flailed around trying to break through.

I presume it had lain in the Somme before being sold.

Did that mean “car tax” had to be paid?

I do remember paying for car tax on it but no idea how much it would've been.

My w205 by comparison is £20 per year.

I always remember my old grandfather having a lada samara it had 1.6 turbo on the back. He always told me it would sit at 100mph on the motorway. He said it was an import and only 3 of it's kind in the UK. I even think he put alloys on it. It must be 20 years ago since he had it. It was painted purple and had turbo badges all over it beeeeeeeeeaaaasssssttttttttt. SmartSelect_20190408-202513_Chrome.jpg
