Hi Everyone,

So, I've gone and brought my first Merc !

56 plate E-Class 320 CDi - 136k on the clock but with full service, and it mostly drives like a dream I am very impressed with the build and drive and above all all the toys work !

I have a few questions - one of which is playing on my mind a bit,

So, I was surprised that there is no cup holder ! - how do you guys manage !!??!
secondly the car has sat nav, how much and where do I go when it needs updating ?
then there is the question of my iPhone - in the central console is a rather ancient looking connection for a Nokia (?) in the storage underneath that I have found someone has wired in an older style iPhone plug - if I get an adaptor will this then plug into the cars system ?

Lastly and sadly I think I may have a gearbox issue -

I have experienced the following twice - when accelerating reasonable hard the car seems to skip though the gears - its quite jerky ( jumpy ) then all you get is a kind of limp mode no acceleration no revs above 1500 and 60 mph max - when this happened I have stopped, turned off the car and re started for everything to run absolutely fine - normal driving and performance and on one occasion is has just dropped into this "limp" mode - I get no funny noises and it changes gear really smoothly
I've had the car 14 days - are we looking at serious defect or some sort of software reset?
should I just return the car to the garage that I brought it from or get the local independent Merc specialist to diagnose the problem (£50)

I'd hate to give the car up - its fab other than this, but I also don't want to be chasing an going issue

Thanks for reading

Darran

Hello and welcome

You can get a cup holder that fits in the storage compartment behind the gear lever (or you can just lift the holder out from the compartment and put your travel mug in the gap...)

Sat nav discs are available -

You can get a bluetooth adapter that replaces the cradle in the armrest

Cheers Blobcat

Cool - where do I look for the cup holder ?

Whats the cost of an updated. sat nav disc - and will I have to be sitting down ?

any pointers for the blue tooth adaptor

Sorry for the questions, I've been scanning the forum about the gearbox, but thats doing my head in a bit, from MAF sensor, to conductor plates to resetting the software - I haven't looked up the other items yet

Cup holders come up on ebay - they were never cheap originally

Comand online are forum supporters and the guru's for all things Mercedes sat nav and audio - the discs are not cheap...:(

Mercedes made their own adaptor as did Viseeo - both come up on here and on ebay - again not particularly cheap. Do a search on the bay.

Welcome buddy , as that's the facelift E class , you have the same car as me :D.
When you ask should you return the car to the dealer , the answer is probably yes . The symptoms you describe suggest the car is in limp mode and will have logged fault codes that can be read by MB specific code readers like icarsoft or MB Star diagnostic equipment .
The faults you describe may well come from the inlet port shut off motor/swirl flaps/turbo/manifold region .
Depending on what it could get expensive fast .
Not to say it will but you need to protect yourself by speaking to the dealer first .

You’ll want a Visseeo MB-4. They’re around £100.

Blobcat - thx for the pointers

Wighty - COOL! mine the Avantgarde - love the car when it's running fine (99% of the time) its awesome - the only thing is the garage is just over an hours drive away - thats the problem living on the ar$£ end on the country - maybe I was hoping for just a little software update to fix it ( wishful thinking ) I'll let the garage know the problem its got (sigh)

Thx to all on this thread - having a great time reading some of the threads on here

Hi welcome, sorry your having a bit of
trouble but I would head straight back to where it was bought , it may be something simple but one things for sure it probably wont be a cheap fix .
Better to let the seller look at it before anyone else touch’s it ,

That's a good start buddy , let the garage you bourght from know what you are doing at each stage and get their agreement (otherwise they may just step back and say someone else messed the car up )

I never looked on them as being an MB Indy, but that's certainly what they profess to be, interesting. Let us know how you get on there. http://www.afordablecars.co.uk/en/services :)

Personally I use Cypress in Lowestoft. Again they are not a dedicated MB indy but they are a Bosch German Car Centre
https://www.cypressautoservices.co.uk/ I find them very good and very thorough. They also post your service details on the appropriate MB service web site :)
