Hi, has anyone had any experience with one of the kits you can buy these days to refurbish alloy wheels yourself? I know it's not going to produce as good a result as getting it done professionally, however my cars getting on and I'm not willing to spend much on this. Cheers

This video is pretty useful for a diy repair. Posted by a member of the forum.

use a deck of cards to go around the tyre , saves alot of time on masking up .

What a great idea, never though of that!

The main issue with DIY wheel refurbs (assuming one has the knowledge to prep, fill and eliminate sanding marks) is that 1K lacquer from cans doesn't last very long.

Material costs is around £70 including caliper paint
So the rest is just a lot of hard work and time on your part. I'm guessing you have quite a bit of experience doing this type of work?

It is really easy, all in the prep work, I did my TT wheels a few years ago and they turned out well so thought I would do these

My wheels are quite corroded, it's been suggested to me they'll require shot blasting. I'm going to wash & polish the car and then see if that inspires to spend money on it!
