My W215 CL500 had a similar issue and I changed the MAF and it is completely sorted now.

The engine ran well most of the time without any roughness but when cold would sometimes just cut out.

Turns out the Ford Ranger MAF is the same Bosch part number as the MAF on mine. Bought one for fault finding for £17 and problem solved.

Will check the part numbers when home. Seems a cheaper option than the fuel filter.

If the MAF was faulty would it show up on the code reader? The indi said no faults were found.

They do seem to vary wildly in price and I'm guessing you get what you pay for but maybe the wider forum would be able to give you guidance on a reasonably priced brand to go for.

Some will be far eastern stuff that may or may not work very well but I can't give any guidance on this, sorry.

Cheers

Unfortunately the problem is back.

Since changing the MAF it hasen't cut out whilst driving but has done so twice whilst stationary.I'll give it a few more tries and if it's still happening will have to cut my losses and get rid of it. Have already spent nearly £400 since last October trying to fix it.

Do you have any fault codes?

Does your Indy use STAR? If so, When the fault happens he should be able to look at lots of live data to see whats happening.

Check the earth straps on the inner wings and gearboxes. They have a habit of rusting away from the body causing all sorts of weird issues.

Took it to the Indy about 3 weeks ago who diagnosed the cause as the CPS which he changed. He said STAR didn't show any codes, but upon reflection since he didn't charge me for the test not sure if he did use STAR.

Don't know if it changes anything, but on the occasions that it cuts out, after restart it drives much better. Like a blockage has been cleared.

Good point about the earth points. Will look into it.

Thanks.
