I was going to order a replace set, but am I wasting money. Air filter were replaced 13 months ago at 43448 miles, and the cabin filter was done 25 months ago on 32890 miles. Millage is now at 52k. Not sure sure what the 'Mann Frecious Plus cabin filter' is much better than the standard? but we both have summer allergies and wonder if this would help?
I can get three filter for £75.

It won't do any harm (other than a minor dent in the bank balance).

The filters are fairly dirty, plus there seems to be some oil within the intake, is that normal?

I presume thats the MAF ( not worked on a 350 yet ) and so part of the intake set up , hot oil vapours run round the system at quite a rate of knots so I always would expect to see residue on parts connected to it , whats the other side of your cab filter like pal ?

Yep, I believe it is. I knew deisels were mucky but not this much. Would you replace the filters, they look a bit grimey as well.

Normal petrol or derv crankcase oil vapour , they both suffer but the diesel is extra sooty from incomplete combustion of diesel molecules thanks to the egr .

The inlet manifold gets alot of the combined muck and can reduce the intake by 2/3 .

Causing poor efficency - less mpg , power etc and MORE emissions .

Is that what the crankcase breather tube thing was for? Would you change my filters?

Just thought, I believe you have to reset the ECU with star once this has been done, I think?

But I've also been told by an indie, that the car will learn itself that the filters have been changed ...

Our cars are like urban myths. Surely needing star would just raise the service costs?

About £23 I think. But I realised i don't need them, it's the air filters that were done a year ago.

You do...

It's not an ordinary charcoal pollen filter and deals with the issues of the diesel demonisation..

No wonder 350 air filters are as expensive as they are, you seem to have half the filter housing incorporated with the filter itself. Why can't MB have designed an air filter that just replaces the filter itself?

Part of the MAF filter plugs directly into the new filters as well.

On my R Class, the Y piece that joins the two air intakes with the turbo inlet had a small piece missing at end where a jubilee type clip was. I assumed that it would be separate from the 2 MAF sensors but was wrong. The whole thing was a few hundred quid .... needless to say I lived with the original part.
